Hi all Im new here... I have a Stock 350 Chevy motor (out of a 74 Laguna) with a edlebrock 600 4 Barrel carb(rebuilt from the factory) with Automatic choke (the choke works fine)with a aluminum Intake.. it has all new intake and carb gaskets new plugs and wires new HEI Ignition the choke is set and works fine and the timing is dead on checked with a timing light and a hot wire straight to Distruitor and it has No vacuum leaks.. it is in a 1968 chevelle... my problem is.. I sometimes get a pop from the carb.. not a steady pop and not all the time and it seems to do it warm not cold.. sometimes it happens when I hit the gas like starting off from a dead stop other times just driving along.it will usually pop 1 to 2 times then its ok.. it runs strong and Idles Fine.. I know its hard to know what's wrong without hearing or seeing the car.. the timing on the engine is 12 Degrees BTD.. the engine did not come with HEI.. it had a points set up now it has a new HEI Distributor (Vacuum advance works fine) new plug and wires etc. I'm not a carb person so I just set the air mixtures screws at about 2 1/2 to 3 turns I just cant get it to stop any Ideas??
thanks

If you are sure you have no vacuum leaks, look at the accelerator pump ... make sure you are getting a good squirt when you press on the gas. The linkage to the accelerator pump has 3 holes and you can move the arm to different holes to adjust the amount of squirt that you get... As a matter of fact, check all of the carb linkage... Hopefully, there is no trash in the carb creating an obstruction ... If you linkage is fine, you may have trash in the carb ... Even freshly rebuilt carbs can have dirt in them ...

Clay69, Usually a backfire thru the carb simply means a plug has fired with an intake valve open. I would check all my valve adjustments if hydraulic, or look for a bad lifter if solid.

thanks I will check the pump
the engine didnt do any of theses things before... I had it in a car and drove it for quite a few miles so I know it has to be something I changed IE 2bbl to 4 bbl and Points to HEI
