I know a lot of you guys & gals use paypal & was wondering which one you use? There is the standard paypal but there are a few more choices on there & was wondering the best choice? Was also wondering what the fee is for having the service? Thanks for any info you're willing to share.

Thanks Bill

Hi Bill,
I use the personal paypal since I am a casual ebayer. Sending payments is free, but there is a charge for receiving payments. Here is a link showing the two levels compared: https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-fees-outside

Hope this helps,
Dan

Link to the three type of accounts.

https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/Marketing/general/PayPalAccountTypes

I started with the personal account an later moved of the premier account. There is a limit to the amount of money you can receive in the personal account.

There are no fees to send money on any of the accounts.

I found this through the Help Center (https://www.paypal.com/helpcenter/main.jsp;jsessionid=Jy2QQ7nvpnf7j8SBXHvnJfh3zD1N7c y9Zcmt77TDpxdq9kwJpHMR%212097198574?t=solutionTab&ft=homeTab&ps=&solutionId=11574&locale=en_US&_dyncharset=UTF-8&countrycode=US&cmd=_help-ext&serverInstance=9003)

Why does my Personal account now have a receiving limit?

Question : Answer : Personal accounts have always been intended for personal use only and are not designed to be used for business purposes. We have not changed the intent behind the different types of PayPal Accounts, only the enforcement on our account types. PayPal considers the receipt of payment types that include Goods and eBay Items in excess of the Personal account limit to be beyond the normal level of personal use. By requiring Premier or Business accounts for all accounts that receive a large volume of payments, PayPal ensures that all high activity selling accounts are treated similarly.
PayPal Personal accounts have limits on the amount of funds they can receive each month.

Depending on the primary currency of the Personal account, the receiving limit is $500 USD or 650 CAD. To view your Personal account limit, log in to your account and click the View Limits link.

This limit applies to the following payment types: Goods and eBay Items. Once you have reached your monthly limit, you will need to upgrade your account in order to receive additional payments of these types within the monthly timeframe. All applicable payments which exceed the monthly limit will be placed in accept/deny status. If you do not accept or deny the payment, the buyer can cancel the payment. If no action is taken, the payment is returned to the buyer after 30 days. The limit is reset monthly.

I have both a personal and a premium account. As noted, as long as a payment received is checks as 'other goods/services' there is no fee for the account holder but there is a monthly limit.

Buyers normally take the easy route and like express checkout for payment. A premium account works well for that. Instead of the buyer having to manually log into their PayPal account, enter your account as payee and HOPEFULLY get the amount correct, express checkout does all that for them and ensures the correct amount is used and correct item(s) identified. Easier for them, accurate payment for you and ensures the item is paid for immediately. Nothing worse (to me) than having something sold then the buyer takes days to pay for it - if they do at all. Postal money orders cost the buyer in both time and extra fees plus it may take a week to get paid. Then I have to take time to go to a bank or post office to cash it...costing me time and money. The PayPal fee cost about the same on small things I sell so it makes it convenient for both the buyer and me to use it.

The Reference CDs I sell on one of my sites gives the buyer a choice of manually paying via account-to-account transfer or by clicking a provided link good for any type of payment. Probably 90% use the link just because it's easier even though they're using their PayPal account and could use the account-to-account transfer. Of the 10% that use the manual method, probalby half mess up the amount or forget the description of what they are trying to order.

On a $29.95 sale, my cost is $1.17 in fees. I can live with that plus the premium account will take payment via credit card, debit cards and bank transfers which the personal account won't. Well, I think you can get one transaction of that type a month but PayPal flags it and suggests you get a premium account.

I'm starting to get the picture:D Only $500 a month on a personal level is pretty low. Should be more like $500.00 a week. I take the upgraded level it's pretty much unlimited & does that mean everything is done on a plastic card or thru a bank transfer? Just need to know what I'm doing here before I do this.

With the premium account, you can take any kind of payment from the seller. Their PayPal transfer, e-check, credit/debit cards, etc. If buyer has a different currency like Canadian dollars, the premium account will accept it even though there is another small fee for the conversion.

Be careful with PP, they are not your friends, nor anybody elses. They are owned by ebay now but they haven't changed at all.

They've been sued repeatedly for locking accounts over trivial problems. while the acct is locked they use your money as an interest-free loan.

Thanks for that info. There always seems to be a down-side to everything. That would a PITA to go thru!

That locked bank account could be that of the seller that took YOUR money and didn't give you what was expected in return. Not much different than a dispute on a credit card. What banking/credit card institute doesn't use the account holders money?

I'm sure there are horror stories with PayPal just like anyone else. Be it money issues, warranty issues, insurance claims, etc., or product quality. I've been buying/selling on eBay for years and have used PayPal for a number of those years and have yet to have any real problems.

On online request thru paypal puts the money in my checking account in approx 3 business days. Approximately the same amount of time to transfer money from my checking account to paypal.

-----by the time I answered it had already been answered. :)
