I have completely rebuilt the engine pistons,cam,lifters, push rods,rockers,valve job, had the carb. rebuilt,flow tested and checked by a second carb.rebuilder I have checked the valve adjustment twice hydraulic lifters, everything is stock factory specs.including dist.and timming this is a 1970 396/350hp with a 4 speed,when you put the pedal to the floor it back fires at least once maybe several times before it takes takes off I need some help any suggestions? thanks, Marty

With the engine off, move the accelerator linkage and look down the front barrels of the carb to see if the accererator pump is squirting fuel into the carb. Let us know what you find.

I would check plug wires for breakdown with a timing light at higher rpms and I would find out what the second guy did to your carb, if the first guy is a good carb man... if someone played with a carb I just overhauled because of backfire, and they were'nt broke down with a car load of nuns warenty would be gone.

I checked the plug wires they are all right the are new, I looked down the carb. and pumped the throttle the accelerator pump is working now what?
