No one's talked about it since 2002.

When I was about 12 years old, I used to have an Aroura set that spanned 3 4X8 sheets of plywood on saw horses with both a road race course and a drag strip. Tons of fun, squishy tires, longer slot pins, rewound motors...

I sure miss the "Strombeckers" or "Strongbeckers" I used to have back in the 70s. I think thats what they were called. Any body have those?? We were only allowed to set it up after Thanksgiving and put away after New Years. Those suckers were fast! Had foam type slicks that you could put a traction liquid on them so they would really hook!

I had a Strombecker 1/32 set. Got it for Christmas when I was 11 years old. It was the older track that had problems with the metal stips coming loose from the plastic because it was just glued on. Had a blast on into HS with it. Ordered all kinds of stuff from Auto World out of Pa. Heard they were coming back! Also built custom bicycles with parts from Auto World!:)

We also had a track in town for 1/24 scale slots! Brass chassis and sidewinder motors, MRC controller, oh yeah! I used to track marshal races on Fri. and Sat. nights to get track time! There were some really hardcore racers back then, some drove 30-40 miles to race there! Good times back then. But the owner had a car lot next door and wanted to expand. One night the race place burnt down.

Boy, I've fooled with slot cars since I was about 11 years old and got my first set, Aurora Model Motoring, AC powered. Got a 1/32 Strombecker several years later. Second version, not the stupid glued on aluminum rails as mentioned above.

Went from there to 1/24 commercial stuff, this around 64-65. I still have a scratchbuilt Chaparral 2-D that I built then and won the weekly races with 6-8 times. Still have 4 of the trophies also! This was pretty early and the car was a lot faster then any of the kits at that time. I was big on detail and enjoyed being fast and looking like a real race car. Especially a Chaparral. That car still runs nice. I have a 1/24 scale Carrera track set up here that is for the old 1/24 stuff I have and the new 1/32 stuff which is really detailed and really fast. I also have a couple Ho tyco sets that the grandkids play with. I have a few of these new cars from Auto World. They make some nice cars that run fine out of the box. I prefer the big stuff, though. The prize from that era is the Cox Chaparral 2-E with the movable high mounted spoiler that moves with acceleration. These cars used to sell from $400-$1200 depending on which chassis they had. The prices on them have come down 40% or so the last 5-8 years. Cox also made a nice 66 Ford stockcar with a chrome tube chassis that is worth quite a bit, too.

I did have a website on AOL with pix of most ever car ever made and the tracks I have built. The end of last year AOL dumped all the free websites they had and I lost my site. I still have most of the pix, but haven't posted them anywhere. Maybe I'll put them on a site the next few weeks, it is neat to see the old stuff. I have sold 75% of the old stuff, but still have some really nice cars, also a 1/24 scale Monogram race set, and a new 1/32 4 lane set made by Artin. The Artin 1/32 is not to be confused with the toy battery operated 1/43 sets ou see in stores. It's a good time to enjoy 1/32 cars and race sets. there are quite a few groups that have big tracks and race the newer stuff. I just play with it! Here's a photo of my new Strombecker set and a Cox slot car kit from back in the early 60's. I may try to put some of these slot pix on a more user friendly site then photobucket. I have used several others and they are a lot easier to use and faster. Maybe the next day or two.

Here's a link to a photo album with a lot of my slot car collection pix in it. About 80% of this stuff I have sold. I could see prices going down so I started selling cars about 5-6 years ago. About 12 years before that I sold the new, boxed, unbuilt kits I had and bought a 1 year old Chevy Silverado. I was lucky in that I started trying to find this stuff around 1986 when it was easy to find and didn't have crazy prices. http://www.photoworks.com/albums/pictures.jsp;jsessionid=98EA955705016F4D24E8B9DA2E 92C1C0?cb=PW_APM&toh=&svr=web32&id=54366594

This is a great online photo album to use. It is more user friendly then any of the 6-8 I have tried.

I used to go to a friends house when I was a kid. He had a slot car set and we would play with it a lot. This year I got my 10 year old a set for Christmas. We both have fun with it. He just laughs a smiles the whole time while playing with it.

Good, does it bring up a page with links to the different albums I have on there? Should be slot cars , street rods, family cars, and Mitchell Indiana junk yard pictures. This is by far the easiest and fastest picture site I have used. If the albums are easy to share, it will fill all my needs.

The yellow 55 is an early Monogram car based on their 1963 model car kit molds. It's a hard car to find, especially in good shape. I was lucky to find one complete car early on and a body later. Several years after that I was able to buy 4 unbuilt kits from a friend in Japan that bought about 25 un-built slot kits from a hobby shop in Tokyo.

The first Monogram kits were based on their 1/24 model kits from 1963. The 55, a 58 Tbird, 40 Ford pickup, Dusenberg, and Mercedes.

I totally remember those. I never had a set but some childhood friends of mine had a nice setup going with a lot of add on accessories for it. Plus a lot of trucks to go with it. Are they making that again?

I actually have one of those Cliffhanger sets though. Has a lot of glow in the dark features and 2 4th gen Vettes that glow in the dark also. Thing has been packed away for many years but I always kept it in good condition and rarely set it up, no room.

I have 3 sets of Tyco HO scale slot car sets one is the days of thunder set with the mello yello car. Does anybody remember/have any of the SIZZLER cars ? I have 6 of the original SIZZLER cars from the early 70s but my high banked track is long gone. If I remember correctly they were charged with a big fuel pump containing 4 d cell batteries. They sell the old style sets(sizzler) and cars at Target ....seen them the other day.
