I have a 454 engine and just installed new clutch, pressure plate and refaced flywheel but car wants to jerk at low speeds up to about 30mph no matter what gear its in,does anybody have any idea why? Thanks,Jeff.

It sounds like a torque reaction that is common in standard shift vehicles. You might try downshifting to a lower gear to bring the engine speed up.

Our 454 was jerking in all gears untill around 30 mph. Turned out our carb and timing was out of adjustment check taht out. You will still hae a litle jerking since the block produces alot of tourqe

Thanks, you may be right i havent really been sure about the timing and carb adjustment. The motor was already rebuilt when i got it and although i dont know whats in it i know it isnt stock and i,ve had trouble with the carb adjustment, seems like its way too rich but i thought that would only help not hurt, guess i need to look at the plugs also to see what they look like.I,ll keep trying to fine tune the adjustments since it runs great at higher speeds.Thanks,Jeff.

I guess the lower the speed the safer it would be http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
