: Anyone watch NASCAR? want to make a fantasy league?

I played fantasy nascar last year and it ended up being just me and my dad and it was very close, but I think it would be fun with a lot more people. Anyone else watch a lot of nascar? or care to play in a nascar fantasy league?

let me know,

Thanks,

Matt

I might be interested...did it a few years ago with a few buddies, and it was fun. We went with the free league on nascar.com

YEAH here's my "Fantasy NASCAR"...

REAL drivers like Cale Yarborough, Richard Petty, David Pearson, Fireball Roberts, Marty Robbins, The Allison's etc...

NO SISSYASS restrictor plates, LET THE BIG DOGS EAT. 250mph bumper too bumper at Talladega and Daytona??? :hurray: :yes: :thumbsup: :beers:

ANY former cup car should be allowed today, bring back the winged warriors from Chrysler/Dodge!!! :cool:

Also bring back the Hemi, the SOHC Ford and BBCs... ;)

Ditch one of the cookie cutter race tracks like Homestead or TX and put at least one dirt track race back on the schedule.

NO speed limit on pit row.

Passin in the grass should be considered "talented" instead of illegal.

If a pile up occurs and a fight breaks out in the infield amongst the drivers then the safety crews should throw in some chairs and stand back to let em have at it. Last man standing gets the most points!!! :thumbsup:

In other words, put the TESTOSTERONE back in the whimpyazzed, neutered "sport" that they call NASCAR today!!! :boxing:

DAT would be MY "fantasy NASCAR", :p

I was thinking of something along the lines of that. I used yahoo fantasy last season and that led to some close results. I just didn't know if there was anyone that payed much attention to nascar, or followed it close enough to want to do a fantasy league. thanks for the response.

And Jim, unfortunately yes nascar has went very conservative with everything but you cant change it. I take it you aren't a fan of nascar and thats fine. I was just looking to see if anyone else was because if you do sort of like it, a fantasy league makes you almost root for the underdogs to get the most points for that week... atleast thats how yahoo fantasy racing was and it was really neat.

Maybe if a bunch of people would like to we could start one

I've done the Yahoo Nascar Fantasy deal for probably the last 6 years or so. I'm done though. Nascar sucks. I will no longer follow it, because it's not exciting anymore. Money has ruined it just like nearly every other "Pro" sports. It's a shame.

72ElCo I meant you NO disrespect personally! :beers: I'm just FURIOUS with what NASCAR has become over the last 10 years. It's been "managed" to death and the COT will be the final, boring NAIL IN THE COFFIN of the sport as we know it. Todays economy is taking the BILLION$ off the table of every company you can name. The truly faithful motorheads like myself are already pretty much gone from the boring, repetitive, overly done sport it has become. The whole rediculous points chase has done nothing but promote the same 8-12 "pretty boys" without any chance of anyone else getting a shot at the big times. Gordon, Lil E, "Smoke" are about the only "big names" from yesterday that are left (and honestly E didn't earn it, just ridin on his last name but I can't blame him, Kyle Petty has made a career doing the same thing for 30 years. Anyone in the same situation would be stupid if they DIDN'T do likewise! Beats a 9-5 $50k a year gig.) the rest of the "drivers" are hand selected by Mr. France and a couple of companies that pay the majority of the bills. If you aren't one of the "chosen few" you might as well take up golf.

It used to be about RACING, now it's about marketing, merchandising and SELLING!!! How else would a clueless moron like Mikey Waltrip ever stand to earn anything? The guy is a selling machine and people like him because his brother is a legend. Mikey can't drive home (remember the wreck near his home awhile back?) nevermind 200mph in traffic. :boring: Yet he's one of the top draws because the rest of the field is soooooooo watered down that even a third rate shoe like himself can accidentally run out front from time too time.

OK I'm slidin the soapbox back under the bed, I'm DONE with NASCAR and have been for quite awhile. I enjoy the occasional F1 race simply because of the amazing technology of the cars. I most get excited about drag boats (I was raised around them) and the NHRA. I enjoy the occasional outlaw and modified dirt boys as well.

lol I agree with the waltrip one, he is a complete joke, and the sport is going downhill. The only cool thing about the yahoo fantasy is that the well known people arent the ones you need to root for. You really start looking at the travis kvapils and the A.J. Allmendingers more then the jeff gordons or dale jrs. It was great fun last year

Dale Jr is a good ole boy and one of the very few left in the sport. For those who think he is just "ridin the name" you can think what you want, he is the most popular driver and has proven himself a winner. Nascar has fallen into the hands of greed, money, spot lights.. etc. Don't throw in the towel yet, the sport will come back to where it belongs sooner than you think. Once the wine sippers realize Nascar isn't the place to be seen they will move on. I like the idea of bringing a dirt track or two to the circuit, this would weed out the wannabes on the track. Can you just imagine some of the pretty folks at todays races sitting on the front row of a dirt event?? Yeah right! LOL. I'm going to Daytona for my first time ever this year.. I can finally afford it after many years watching. Hopefully I will not be the only car guy there. :)

My friends and I used to do a NASCAR pool, there were 14 of us, and we got 3 cars each every week, that were based on starting order.. We drew cards to determine your starting order for the first week, then it just progressed numerically.. For example, if I drew the pole for week one, my drivers would be whoever qualified 1,15,& 29, the next week I would have 2,16,& 30 and so on......

Points were assigned based on where those drivers finished with bonus points if any of them led a lap.. I event went so far as to make an excel spreadsheet to keep track of it all..

We all put $125.00 in BEFORE THE SEASON STARTED, $25.00 P/P was set aside for the banquet at the end of the year, while $100.00 P/P was for prizes.. We payed out for first,second,third,and last to give more people a chance to win..

We haven't done it for a few years,but maybe we'll start it up again..

add a dirt track...
smoke and mark martin
would love it..

and little E had to earn his way to the top..
daddy, didn't help moneywise till after he showed he could in fact drive the wheels off a car..
then he got dads help..
c.o.t. was a great idea.. that had to many cheifs .working on it..
it's safer/ and can take hits with the wall better and still run in the top ten..
something the old car could do..
but it went to far..
and should've been tested on the lower busch class first..
it being booring.. lately isn't the car.. but the tire package..
goodyear has had it's head up it's a** this year..
you can't win if you are not there at the end..
and with the tire issues.. not many where going to take chances on passes..
and wreck..
that and letting toyota. have 3/4 of the season.. before they.. stopped the outright cheat'n
hurt them..
this year..
they all know.. people don't have money.. and need to put on a show..(like big E /rusty/etc) did week in ,week out..
and because of this..
this year should be one of the best..
as they will be racing every lap like it's 10 to go..
to much to lose if they don't..
I'll bet nascar lets the drivers "race" this year.. and you'll see more donuts on doors..
and more bump and pass..
unlike the race and fine, that nascar did last year..
also bet loud mouths like smoke, get to open up without nascar trailor talking to..and fines..
the ad money. isn't a "given" this year or next..
they have to make it a show.. that people want to see the whole thing,, not 20 laps in.. and the last 20..
and they got a swift kick in the butt ,the end of last year..
racing is going to be back in nascar this season..
as it's put up or die..
other than the car being a sticker package..
thats ending in a few years also...
should've never happened.. but .. to late now..
it's being fixed..
and thats being helped by a heavy hand of the pissed off big three

it being booring.. lately isn't the car.. but the tire package..The tire issues were for the most part caused by the car design... too high CoG, and higher RRCH put a ton of extra load on the outside tires.

haha. maybe the first few races the year before.. that they ran the cars part time..
but not this year..
goodyear had all thr info needed to .bring the correct tires..
they dropped the ball
between the races run the year before and the tire testing..
no way

National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing.

Now that the cars are all the same (except for the decal package) it is NOT NASCAR in my mind anymore, it is BORING. I liked it much better up through about the mid to late 80's when you could actually glance at a car and tell what brand you were rooting for.

Shorten the pre race show, take that silly wing off the cars and let them trade paint without fear of the officials. How about that for "change".. Yeah, back to normal. :)

sweet, well I guess we need to decide what kind were going to play. These is the one on nascar.com and also one on yahoo.com. I played the yahoo one last season and it was pretty fun. I dunno if you think that would be cool? One of us just has to make the league and invite everyone and we can start from there. Lemme know what you guys think

I'm thinking about setting up the Yahoo one again. That one was fairly easy, and gave you more interest in where the lower drivers placed as well as the higher ones. Yahoo didn't start the '09 season yet, I'm going to assume they will open it up in the near future to make our league, and then I can invite everyone in and we will be set for daytona.

The league works kind of like this

Drivers are set into three different groups

A- has your jeff gordons and jimmie johnsons (the well known ones) (I think its based off the chase so it will be the top 10 or 12 drivers from last year)

B- has your more mediocre drivers, this could vary a lot this season, but last season Dale jr, and Kyle busch, and david ragan were ones that fell into this category

C- was the bottom of the pit, Drivers like mike waltrip, A.J. Allmendinger, and others fell into this category

You could only use a driver 9 times during the season (so you couldnt just play dale jr all year long ect.)

each race you picked 2 A drivers 4 B drivers and 2 C drivers. before they qualify on friday

if one of your drivers that you picked qualified in the top 4 you got bonus points.

1st = 10 points
2nd = 5 points
3rd = 2 points
4th = 1 point

For the race on sunday you picked 1 of your 2 A drivers/ 2 of your 4 B drivers/ and 1 of your 2 C drivers

These picks were the ones that would accumulate points for the race that sunday.

I dont want to bore you with this whole post, When it is time for us to create our league I will post a link to the rules, along with how to join so we can start our fantasy nascar league.

Let me know if this works for you guys,

Thanks,

Matt
