Hey guys, new to restoring. Can anyone tell me the difference between the long and short style pumps? Im changing from a sb to bb (454) and both are available. Can I use either? Can I use the one from my small block?

SB and BB water pumps aren't interchangeable. The accessory brackets are different depending to which water pump (long or short) you have. The early model year Chevelles had short water pumps and the later year models had long water pumps. What year are you working on?

Tim, what year Chevelle are you working on, that will help determine if you need a long or short pump.

Its a 69 chevelle, 454 bb. Im getting the motor from Mark Jones and he said hes including all the mounts/brackets that I need. I called him, he said it would need the edelbrock long pump. Is there a specific bracket that you're talking about?

All the long water pump brackets for BB are BB specific. You'll need the both top and bottom alternator brackets and water pump and crank pulleys, If PS and AC equipped you need those brackets too.

I get it now. Hes sending me all the brackets I need, including A/C. On the phone it was a little confusing because I have never done this before. I didnt realize that the alternator bracket was part of the mounting of the water pump. All cleared up! Thanks!
