Still have problem popping through carb when stomping on it. 454, 4-speed, 750 holley vac. secondaries. I have changed shooter sizes up to .031 then to .035 looked at acc. pump discharge, getting good flow. Couple people said "jetting" may need to go bigger. Would that cause the sputter and backfire? Never had this problem until I just put new performer Rpm on.

Sounds like you have a vaccuum leak somewhere. Depending on which carb you have there may not be a listing. Some later carbs used a plate instead of actual jets.
What jets are in there now? If the carb is stock jetted, it's probably too rich for your altitude. I'd try knocking it down about two jet sizes on the primary and go from there. It will get better or worse! Also, check timing as that could be off now.
