My 72 307 bone stock chevelle has a fairly bad hesitatin problem when I accelerate from red lights or cruising slowly. If Im not careful it will stall. It also takes about 5 minutes of idleing at start up before it will even attempt to move without stalling in the morning. What all could it be?

Sounds like the accelerator pump might not be working. I had this problem when I first bought my Chevelle. I rebuilt the carb and it turned out someone else had rebuilt it with the wrong parts rendering the pump useless.

Your's might be clogged. Pop, the hood and hold the choke blades open. Move the accelerator linkage quickly with your hand and see if you can see gas squirt out into the carb.

Might be time for a rebuild or at least a cleaning.

I already checked that and the gas squirt nice and quick.

It might be a choke problem. It is running lean on startup because the choke is not being shut enough or the jetting is on the lean side. You might want to check the ignition timing. Advancing it to about 16 degrees initial with the vacuum advance disconnected might do wonders.

If its the choke that isnt closing right, what are the reasons for that?Timing is at 10btc at the moment. Is 16 too much?
