: Whats Your Favorite Car Movie??
kandygold72chevelle Jan 7th, 09, 9:26 PM I Would have to sat my favorite is Two Lane Blacktop. That 55 Chevy they got is bad ass. It happens to be the same one that is in American Grifti (another great movie) Im only 24 but I love these old car movies
Racing Jan 7th, 09, 9:30 PM Two that I remember are Vanishing Point and Gone In 60 Seconds (the original).
john5469 Jan 7th, 09, 9:36 PM USED CARS, Columbia Pictures, 1980, Kurt Russell, Deb Harmon, Jack Warden, 200 vintage cars, even some neked girls too. Don't look at what happens to the nice 57 chev tho. Lenny and Squigy are in it too.
papa1320 Jan 7th, 09, 10:10 PM One of the best ever is Hot rod (1979) a.k.a. Rebel of the road
Dave Birdwell Jan 7th, 09, 10:26 PM Two Lane is #1 for me.
Les Saville Jan 7th, 09, 10:29 PM Bullett
68bye Jan 7th, 09, 10:30 PM Too many to list. I have most of them on VHS or DVD anyway. :D
Everytime I find one or here of one, I buy it. Pat got a couple of them, but I snagged the majority of them.
Chevl_Steve Jan 7th, 09, 10:42 PM American Graffitti or GREASE! That song "Greased Lightning" is awesome.
By the way, the 55 in Two Lane Blacktop and American Graffitti may be the same year but they are NOT the same exact car.
When I was a teen the radio station in San Fransisco gave away the 55 from American Graffitti in a contest. I entered and wanted that car sooooo bad! I wonder where it is today?
Steve
pitt1979 Jan 7th, 09, 10:56 PM Kind of lame, but me and my boy like to watch the dukes of hazzard. The seen where they break out of jail and are being chased in the circle gets us pumped up. Also dude, wheres my car. Just kidding.
53Chev Jan 7th, 09, 10:59 PM Whats my favourite movie?.......
I'd have to say its the one with my car in it and me driving it.
Flash of Genius
depley Jan 7th, 09, 11:03 PM the animated movie Cars is my favorite. It harkens back to the day when the car was a big part of the american family and it mattered. Plus all the historical places of route 66 and heck america that are incorporated into the movie.
Chevelle_Nut Jan 7th, 09, 11:14 PM Smokey and the Bandit. It is still my favorite movie.
kandygold72chevelle Jan 7th, 09, 11:51 PM By the way, the 55 in Two Lane Blacktop and American Graffitti may be the same year but they are NOT the same exact car.

65lkey Jan 8th, 09, 1:22 AM Smokey and the Bandit. It is still my favorite movie.
x2 American Graffiti is my number 2
RAMBO Jan 8th, 09, 1:36 AM Blues Brothers... 2 lane Blacktop.... Hot Rod(1979)... Dazed and Confused.... Christine... and others that have already been mentioned :)
chevelledude71 Jan 8th, 09, 2:57 AM 2 Lane Black Top, American Graffiti, Bullet and the new Gone in 60 Seconds.
Chris R Jan 8th, 09, 3:05 AM I have to agree with 2 Lane Blacktop. I am fortunate to own a collectible 1 of 5000 made, copy of the movie in a metal tin with booklet. Picked it up at Best Buy around 99 or 2000 for 10 bucks. Never seen the entire movie but caught enough clips on VH1 one night many years prior to that even. Figured those few clips were worth the 10 bucks. Best 10 bucks I ever spent.
If it werent for that rediculous jump scene in the new Gone in 60 secs. That would have been a better movie, that scene really ruined it. Still havent seen the original.
Bisquit037 Jan 8th, 09, 4:46 AM Smokey and the Bandit. It is still my favorite movie.

bowtie6872 Jan 8th, 09, 8:26 AM Smokey and the Bandit. It is still my favorite movie.

closely followed by cannonball run...
sorry never seen two lane..
mr 4 speed Jan 8th, 09, 8:31 AM The original "Gone in 60 seconds" and "Two Lane Blacktop"
grandsport Jan 8th, 09, 8:37 AM Christine and Thunder Road.
BADCHVL Jan 8th, 09, 8:40 AM I'd have to say that "Vanlshing Point" and "Dirty Mary and Crazy Larry" are my two favorite car shows.
Derek69SS Jan 8th, 09, 8:55 AM Tough to pick a favorite, but "American Graffiti" would probably top the list.
Other favorites include "Gone in 60 Seconds" (Original 1974 version), "Dazed & Confused", "Cars", and the first "Smokey & the Bandit"
I have a lot of the old car-movies... some are good, some are bad. They're fun to watch though. :)
By the way, the 55 in Two Lane Blacktop and American Graffitti may be the same year but they are NOT the same exact car. :noway:
American Graffiti used 2 of the 3 cars built for Two-Lane Blacktop. The only '55 in AG that wasn't a TLB car is the one they burned.
Moonshine67 Jan 8th, 09, 10:11 AM The cars dont survive in most of my favorite car movies. They are Death Proof, Road Warrior, Dazed and Confused, and about 15 min of Bad Boys 2 (the car chase on the Freeway).
The Deejay Jan 8th, 09, 10:40 AM California Kid...with Martin Sheen.........Gumball Rally.....that race across U.S.A. was really something...everything from Camaros, Cobras, Ferraris, even a Bentley....would have just liked to watch them shoot that film.
rb45 Jan 8th, 09, 10:45 AM I always stay up to watch either, the remake Vanishing Point really sucked, I loved the part were he breaks his oil pan and just happens to find a Hemi pan in a junkyard. In Crazy Mary I think they start out in a 427 Impala and they switch cars to a Mopar, there are real driving scenes, not the made up stunts like most movies, except Bullitt of course.
sschevellefan Jan 8th, 09, 11:10 AM American Graffitti or GREASE! That song "Greased Lightning" is awesome.

Like the story says they are the same car. The primered version was also in a episode of Adam-12 but I`ve never seen it. I`ve got 2 lane on video but it`s been so long I can`t remember if it`s VHS or DVD. Pretty sure it`s tape. Hollywood Knights is another awsome movie.
ftgallant Jan 8th, 09, 1:29 PM Another vote for 2 lane Blacktop! Somebody should start a poll with the top 10 and lets vote for only one. Would be fun.
Krister Jan 8th, 09, 1:35 PM Hollywood Knights and Cars. One you can watch with young kids - the other you can't.

RedAllison Jan 8th, 09, 3:24 PM Yep I love "2 Lane Blacktop". They ended up here in my hometown of Memphis at the then big dragstrip (Lakeland Int. Raceway) where my dad grew up and raced many times. I remember going there myself as a kid. (Including the last national event) :beers: http://www.lakelandraceway.com/ There's even a page on the movie there. Sadly the track is in the process of being removed for a neighborhood development.
Also LOVEs:
Hollywood Knights. (The WHOLE movie was awesome and DAMN those blondes, especially the tall one in the short shorts!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Smokey & The Bandit. (Dad had a 78 just like the movie)
Dukes of Hazzard. (Dad owned a body shop and built a 69 Charger "General" when I was in elementary school, I KNEW I was da chit. :p)
Cannon Ball Run. (I don't know what I remember the most, the awesome cars or Susan Anton and Catherine Bach in those satin jumpsuits!)
Cars. (Yep like the nostalgia and of course Rt. 66)
And STRANGELY enough... "Driving Ms. Daisy" mostly for the old Cadillacs throughout the movie!
I also like "Gator", loved that ol brown Ford that Burt had. My grand dad had a 71 Custom 500 former police car with a 429 Interceptor in it at the same time. That ol car would ROLL now. :D
buff691 Jan 8th, 09, 4:35 PM hollywood knights......... what a classic. american graffiti no.1 ranks right up there to

2 LANE BLACKTOP.
GONE IN SIXTY SECONDS ......original and new version.
STARSKY AND HUTCH....
oktunes Jan 8th, 09, 5:25 PM California Kid. I recorded that on vhs around 1978. Same time I was building my 34 Ford Roadster. I had bought the Pete and Jakes front end suspension kit and if I hadn't allready bought a roadster body, I would have built a coupe after seeing this move. A lot of actors, too, that went on to become pretty big. Over the years, I ended up seeing the original coupe several times. Now there are several of them and they all look alike, except they are fiberglass. The movie really gives the car the most scenes!
Bullit, probably second. That's a good story and Steve is so cool!
Two Lane probably is next and it will be aired on Turner Classic Movies March 20/21 at 2:30 am.
Used Cars will be aired in April.

That is a cool find, I ordered it for I think $20 - 30 new. I have the VHS version. If you order the new edition of Vanishing Point on DVD make sure it has the U.S. and English realease on one disc, the English version has sceens they pulld from the U.S. Neat to have.
Anyone see Bad Georgia Road? That has a '70 Hemi R.R. and a Hemi Charger I think, saw it once on vhs years ago.
Used Cars, that is great when the guy pulls away in the LTD wagon and the tailgate opens and the kids go in the mud puddle, great movie.
zeke67 Jan 8th, 09, 7:44 PM Another vote for 2LT.
I also have the DVD collector tin, got it as a gift so I have the poster and key chain that go with it.
As already posted, 3 cars used in 2LT. One was the stunt car with a split brake system for spin outs, one was for shots where you see the outside of the car, and one was for inside sots. Two of these made it into AG, not sure which two.
Watching 2LT, you'll notice during the inside shots you can see a single 4bbl inside the hood scoop, but when the hood is open and the car is stopped, it's dual quads on a tunnel ram.
cessnarob Jan 8th, 09, 7:48 PM Being a movie buff I have too many too list..Smokey and the Bandit is one I watch at least 6 or 7 times a month though..:D

Poster / key chain?!? I did not get these! I read somewhere, maybe the book in the tin, that the car had a fake high rise set up and only had a single 4bbl. Maybe it was the TLB web site. But I think it stated that you can see this in one of the sceens, fake dual 4's.

I love that movie, to bad its a STANG. That chase scene is freakin awesome though!:beers:

American Graffiti
Two Lane Blacktop
Pheadrus Jan 9th, 09, 3:34 AM I agree with most of the previously mentioned movies and have a couple more. "Catch Me If You Can"- I saw it years ago on late night TV and haven't seen it anywhere since. I'm a little sketchy about details but it had a red 57 Bel Air that was buried in the ground in a chamber and the lead character had to race it in a timed race to get back his car he unfairly lost to bad guys(69 ss Velle I think). It was low budget but had some great cars like a 69 indy pace car Camaro vert and many others. Does anyone have or know this movie? Also the classic cheesy "The Car." Kinda off topic but does anyone remember the classic "Walking Tall." In it or one of the sequels to it a blue 70-73 Camaro is driven by one of the bad dudes and Sheriff Buford rips the door of the car and trashes it. I'm almost positive it was a Baldwin Motion car or it was painted just like one. Anyone know the story on this car? Lastly "The Wraith" with Charlie Sheen. Again a little cheesy but has some cool cars and the concept car the main character drives is pretty cool. I think it was a real Olds prototype they used for the movie.
Steve.
72 468/400chevelle Jan 9th, 09, 10:01 AM Two Lane Blacktop. Absolutely no story line and pitiful acting, but it didn't matter. I just love to hear the gears in that old rock crusher whining. That brings back a lot of memories for me.
Danny
REMIX Jan 9th, 09, 9:39 PM Dazed and Confused. My car is named in homage to Matt' McConaughey's 1970 SS Chevelle "Melba Toast". Lots of cool old cars in that movie.
Second would be "Bullitt". McQueen was the man.

While SOME of that story may be true, I KNOW I remember KFRC in San Francisco giving away at least one of those 55s in a contest shortly after the movie came out! My memory is not that bad .....as that 55 made one heck of an impression on me and I know I tried to win that car in the contest!
There HAS to be more to this story.

zeke67 Jan 9th, 09, 11:20 PM Poster / key chain?!? I did not get these! I read somewhere, maybe the book in the tin, that the car had a fake high rise set up and only had a single 4bbl. Maybe it was the TLB web site. But I think it stated that you can see this in one of the sceens, fake dual 4's.
You see both. When they are in the car, and the camera angles are toward the front windshield you can see the single Holly carb through the back of the hood scoop.
The scene at the gas station, where the guy with the pane truck wants to race, you see the dual quads. Don't know that I'd call it fake, bit no evidence in the movie that ti runs.

oldtimebaseballfan Jan 10th, 09, 11:41 AM My favorites have been spoken for already but I didn't see these movies and wanted to bring them to the attention of people that might remember.
Viva Las Vegas with Elvis and Ann Margaret.
Redline 7,000, don't remember any actors but lots of good stock car scenes from the 60s.
There was a movie about Junior Johnson that was pretty good about his early days.
The movie "3". I like it because it's about Earnhardt.
Randy Mosier Jan 10th, 09, 1:34 PM Not a car movie per se, but a movie with a pretty good chase scene was the "The Getaway" with Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger. And the original with Steve McQueen and Ali McGraw was just as good.
No mention of "Death Race 2000"?
"POINTS!"
Justinlee Jan 10th, 09, 4:13 PM Pheadrus i seen that movie Catch me if you can it was a good movie i have been trying to find it but couldnt remember the name!

Pheadrus i seen that movie Catch me if you can it was a good movie i have been trying to find it but couldnt remember the name!
That movie was filmed somewhat local here. I actually got to see it free as I had a friend of mine that won a pair of tickets to see it in the theater and took me along. The lead character used a 68 Malibu to run races against a bunch of nice classics. It was all ran buy one guy named the Fatman like kind of a if sort of organized underground race betting scheme. Ran against all Fatmans drivers winning money to go to college. I still have a videotape of this movie from when it first aired on a cable movie station, Showtime or HBO I cant remember which but no commercials. Acting isnt pathetic so its not that bad of a movie really.

But cant say the same about his hair.:D Big difference between then and now. Hes bald or close to it today.
MEJ1990TM Jan 11th, 09, 6:22 AM I've heard people say that the '55 in American Grafiti has a M22 but I never once hear the whine.

Big time. At one point they are driving and have to slow down to drive over some bumps, like a railroad track and he downshifts and then upshifts to get going again and you can totally hear it.

I missed this thread before... That is one of my favorites. The acting IS horrible, the script is bad, even the street racing isn't the best, but I still like it. It was filmed mostly up near St Cloud MN, but there's a little in Mpls/St Paul area done by Hiawatha Ave I believe. Lots of local references to places we used to race. I gotta watch it again now this weekend.
Cars is probably my favorite overall.
mudhog Apr 8th, 09, 9:32 AM I can't believe "cars" is on some of yuals list I coudn't watch over 20 minutes of it before hitting eject. If you are a true 2 lane blacktop fan then you must go purchase The Criterion Collection of Two-Lane Blacktop. It has 2 Disc one of the movie and the other has interviews, screen outtakes, original trailer, photos of the 55 when it was painted white after the film then when it was recovered and restored back to the movie car, and you get a copy of the original screenplay, and some more stuff, it talks about every thing done to the cars.

67ElkyBryan Mar 3rd, 10, 11:54 AM Death Proof has some kick ass car chase scenes in it.
67ElkyBryan Mar 3rd, 10, 12:05 PM I picked up a copy of Gears, Grease and Guitars at a cruise last year. It's more of a documentary on the early days of rodding, racing and rockabilly music in Denver. It's a little heavy on the rockabilly music for my liking. But still not a bad flix as it has a few people and cars in it that I know.
I think it might be hard movie to find as I think it was a pretty limited edition. I think the entire movies was shot conceived, shot and marketed but one or to guys.
