let me start at the begining I recently replaced my alternator , regulator with a one wire alternator and also my starter makes a spark at the terminal when i crank the motor I dont know if either is a cause just a little info ,but the car charges fine and runs fine and starts fine except for the spark ,just when i turn off the key the generator light comes on I noticed it like a month ago and never thought much about it until the battery went bad yesterday and I replaced it I have also replaced the positive battery cable and the ignition wire any ideas .?

A true one-wire alternator only has one wire attached to it. That would be the large red B+ wire on the rear stud. If that's all you have the idiot light won't work right.

Unless it can be hooked up as an OEM style 3-wire the idiot light won't work. Some one-wires can be hooked up as a 3-wire, but a true one-wire can not. What one-wire did you buy? A Powermaster? Part Number?

its a magnum part number mgm-7127-c-80 I bought it in a summit racing magazine. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by John_Muha:

Guessing it looks a lot like this one. Should be a cap back there for the other two wires to hook it up like a 3-wire alternator. Did they include the steps in the instructions to do that? http://www.powermastermotorsports.com/Chrome/GM_Early_Style/gm_early_style.html

This is the way the existing harness should have been modified. Should be hooked up the same way as the 12 SI shown here. http://www.chevelles.com/techref/ftecref14.html

yes it does have a cap where you can put the other wires and no it didnt come with instructions ,I will try this as soon as the rain lets up(hate oregon rain) and I will let you know as soon as I try it. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by John_Muha:

You say from the Battery to the Alt?!?! My one wire goes from the Alt...to the starter...and charges the batt through the post on the starter. This was done by a professional alt/starter guy

I called summit racing and they said go straight to the battery.wouldnt that be the same as going to the starter or are you talking about the ignition wire on the starter. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by SSchevy400:

Summit is correct. The large original (+) battery cable runs from battery to the starter/solenoid. Anyway, this lead doesn't have anything to do with the idiot light not working. The idiot light is controlled by the field output wire on the alternator. Both the field output and the sense output connections are probably under the boot. The idiot light needs to be hooked up to the alternator field to work. Hopefully it can be done on that alternator. The wiring instructions are in Wes Vann's tech ref link.

Same difference. The connection to the large post of the solenoid is a longer path back to the battery, otherwise, it's the same circuit.

The wires need to be hooked up this way.

I understand the blue and the brown go together where the regulator was but on the back of the alternator it shows a blue wire going to it ,does that come from the blue and the brown that are hooked together. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by John_Muha:

Yes, the blue wire goes to the alternator.
