I just finished installing a small block in my 70 Chevelle.Used a new flexplate and the old starter, nine times out of ten,it starts fine. Then it will just make a screech, like a bad section on the flexplate, but inspection shows no damage.Should I change the starter? The flexplate is identical to the old one.Need to fix this problem,so I can finish the car and make some noise. This is a TR1Y tunnel ram, dual Holley, built 350 turbo beast. Thanks

it's a lot easier to change the starter, but if all was good before you changed out the flexplate i'd be woried, if my batt. voltage was good, wiring, conections, ext. i'd go starter first cause its alot easier..

Just curious..... http://www.gamers-forums.com/smilies/contrib/fk/confused.gif ...What type of bolts are you using to bolt it to the block???

It's likely a bad started drive or selenoid or both assuming all your cable connections are clean/tight and your battery & alt are up to snuff.

Hey guys, thanks for the tips. The battery and connections are fine, the old flexplate had a bad section, thats why I changed it.If I change the starter I'll go with a high torque type, anybody have a favorite aftermarket starter?
