I've got a 350 SB with an HEI(accel, super coil). My timing is set at about 12 to 14 on the tab. My vacuum is manifold vac.
It's got an edelbrock airgap intake and headers. 2 1/2" exhaust out the back.
The motor has been bogging/stumbling when I get on the gas at any speed.
I took out the metering rods and step up springs and found 7547 rods and what I think was the yellow spings. After putting the silver springs(strongest) and installing the 7052 rods, I got rid of the stumbling at higher RPM's.
It still acts like it is either starving for gas or getting too much at take off(from idle)
The pump linkage is on the highest squirt level.
I haven't pulled the plugs lately but they are usually white to a very light brown.
What gives? I'm a new born baby messing with carbs.
Thanks,
Mark

Help us troubleshoot. Have you made any changes lately, or has this problem developed over a period of time? Have you looked down the venturis and opened the throttle to see if the accelerator pump is actually pushing fuel out? I've have problems with my vacuum advance causing stumbles when it was getting too strong of a vacuum pull. As far as possibly getting too much fuel, do you have a black cloud of smoke when you get on it? If not, I don't think that is the problem.

No smoke and yes I've had this prob for a while. From what I've gathered, it's a lean condition. I've changed the step up springs and metering rods, helped some.
I had a pretty good post going on this before and a load of other things went wrong.
I fixed those "other"things and am starting back on the carb.
I just got off the phone with edelbrock and they are sending a set of rods (that is supposed to be the right ones)and a bigger pump squirter, no charge. (Can you believe it??)
Anyway thanks for the reply.

Congrats on the free parts. Just wanted to check back and find out if you'd made any progress yet? One question that I don't think got totally answered. You said that this had been happening for a while, have you made any changes that may have created the problem or did the car develop this on its own?

Have you read Edelbrock's carburetor manual on their website? http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/eps_intro.html
It gives really good information. Better than any other book on the Carter AFB carburetor.
It's very hard to troubleshoot something like this without actually being there.
Their charts will help you to tune it a little at a time.
