thats just it.
i crank it over and over and over, nothing catches and nothing fires up.
whats so weird about it is that the car was running for 5-10 minutes, i shut it off, then 10 minutes later i crank it and nothing happens.
lights work and starter seems to be in top shape.
i tried it last night twice, and this morning once, with the same results.
can someone help me figure this out? its got to be some ignition problem.

*** the motor has been together for around 10k miles and i had put a new coil and things into the distributor at the beginning.

thanks for any help/advice you can give me.

Well Lucas,
Did you do anything (to the car) during the 10 minutes it was off? First thing is to check fuel, next spark. If you have those and compression then all you need is timing.

ahhh.
no, i was working on the heater ducting inside the car. the hood was closed the whole time. i didnt remove any wires.
thats what is so weird about it.

(i kept thinking it might be fuel, it always takes 5 or 6 pumps and a few tries to get it running on a cold morning.... but it was running 10 minutes before.)

does the car have points or was the car converted to an electronic ignition?

Mike - its an HEI.

but ive figured it out: its the carb instead.
it seems to be metering badly and squirting gasoline from God Knows Where- it started peeling the paint off a valve cover.
i finally got it started, after i fiddled with the choke. it ran odd, then a plug went foul (they're all dripping).
a strict reworking of the carb (or new one) is in order, its never run correctly.

thanks for your help anyways, caddpro and MalibuMike70.
