Anyone know a restoration shop that could do my steering shaft?

It's for a 68SS

Mine is basically rusted a little, not in bad shape but if I'm doing a frame off restoration, seems like i should do a little more than wipe the greece off it and spray it with black. Shouldn't I put in new bearings, seal, bolts, etc. to try to make it look like this one? I did a search and found a thread that had an assembly chart for taking one down but......not sure if I wanna tackle that or not.
Any help would be appreciated.

They are simple to do. I did my own as have several others on here. Ground Up sells the replacement seal. http://www.ss396.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=chevellecamino&Product_Code=DSB-83

Directions on how to rebuild... http://jimshea.corvettefaq.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/07/pot-coupling-seal-replace.doc

I tore my shaft apart, used some PB Blaster around the pressed in pin at the top that is inside the pot coupling then used my bench top vice to push the pin out once the PB Blaster broke it loose. Cleaned it all up, painted it, slipped the new boot on, pressed the pin back in, packed the cleaned pot coupling with grease, and put the clip back on it. Looks like new.

Ok. I'm pretty handy so I guess I can give it a try. What kind of paint on the upper and lower? And don't tell me eastwoods detail gray.lol I've had bad luck with it. I checked and your right ground up has the seal and one of the bolts. Ugh...I have so much other stuff to do to get this car on the road before summer.

Mine looks almost that good and it took, maybe, one afternoon. Blast all the parts. Spray the intermediate shaft black. Spray the couplers with Cast-Blast. Spray the bolts with flat black. Reassemble. Not being a smarta**, seriously, there is not that much to it.

If you really want to pay someone else to do it I'm sure there are plenty of guys here that would.

They are really not that hard to do. Take a couple of pictures before you take it apart, bead blast the parts and re-paint accordingly. Make sure the rubber boot is good, re-pack with grease and you should be good to go. Here's a couple of shots at my first attempt. Don't sweat it!

I did mine and the hardest part was getting the pin out. I blasted all the parts and them painted the shaft and the top part with Details Stainless Steel paint and the bottom piece with Cast Blast then repacked with grease, a new boot and put it back together.

If you want a new bolt for the lower flange, I have one that is still in the package. The originals were Black Oxide. The reproduction from GU (who is supplied by AMK) is gold in color. I opted to recoat my original in Black Oxide.
