The power steering pump on my elky (original 350 SB) has developed a slight tapping/knocking noise. Wasn't sure that was where it was coming from at first but now I'm almost sure since it stops when I turn the steering wheel slightly to one side or the other. The knock returns a second or two after stopping the turn. There are NO problems while driving as far as the steering functions go. The fluid level is OK and there are no signs of leaks. Is this the beginning of the end of the pump?

just a suggestion, check the brackets for the pump and make sure the belt is tight.

I thought i had a bad pump once, but it turns out that the part of the bracket that ataches to the motor mount was loose, and because of that the motor mount broke.

Thanks, Ryan. All the brackets are tight. The belt might be a "little" loose, but not slipping. Over the weekend, a leak deveolped somewhere. It appeared at the gear box itself, not the pump. Probably at a hose connection. Have to check it next weekend. Anyone else ever have a knock? Any fix besides replacement?
