I am currently running a GM HEI fitted with MSD coil, module, and a soft touch rev control in my 69 chevelle. The combination has run flawlessly for the past 3 years. The other day I was driving along and the car just died. I'm getting power to the distributer, but I'm not getting anything to the plugs. The car turns over, but there is no tach reading. I was hoping that you could give me some ideas on how to trouble shoot the system and pinpoint the component that has failed. Any information/help would be much appreciated.

Some of the parts stores have simple ignition module testers. It sounds like your module died.

Make sure you are getting 12 v to the dist. and look closely for any signs of arcing. I agree with Louie most likely the module. once you pull the cap and rotor off one more thing is to lightly tug on the wires from the pickup coil they have been known to break after years of service. If you do the module get a genuine GM part if you are not gonna use a perf aftermarket one and make sure to apply the heat transfer compound.
