My 66 is stock, brakes and suspension.I'm running the same size wheels that you are.The tire sizes are:FRT-235/45/R17,Rear-255/45/R17.The reason for the sizes that I have selected are this,The finished tire height will very close to the stock tire, within 1/2-3/4" of the original 775.14 tire that the car came with when it was new.
Thats the best piece of advise I can give you.Check out the original tire height(stock)and choose the right tire this way..Bob

I want to get as big of tire in as I can, do you have room on the inside/outside to add wheel width?

Matt,I just got these wheels in about three days ago.I'll put them on in about 5-6 days.Right now,I'm redoing some dash wiring, installing my knee knocker,my restored '66 A/C Delco AM-FM radio and speakers,'66 wood wheel, heater and upper and lower rad. hoses. After all that, then the wheels and tires go on.I"ll post a bunch of pictures when I'm finished...Bob

Depends on the diameter tire you want.

If you want to stick with ~26." tall.
The largest you could do per tire manufactors recommendations are 255/45/17 in back with 235/55/17 in front.

I you want taller in back you could do a 255/50 which is about ~27"

Well I really would like a 315 in the rear, height is not a big concern as I will have too much power and not enough traction... I would like to see a 275 in the front as well....

If you haven't bought the wheels yet get 17x9 and you can run 275/40/17's all the way around.

When you get into the lower profile tires you are more limited to how wide of a tire your wheel will allow.

Putting a 315 tire that is about 27" inches tall on a 17X8 in wheel isn't going to happen.
Look on tire rack and look up the specs for each tire size.

I realize that, I am thinking a 9.5 or wider in the rear....But I have not got the back space figured out yet...

I got 17x8 fronts and 17x9.5 rears w/5.5in bs on my 68'. I cant remember what my front backspacing is, I think 4.5". I'm tunning 275-40r17 in the rear with plenty on room to spare.

Consider checking the tire database in the Wheels and Tires section also.

I was running Kumho ASX 255/50/17's on back and 235/50's on the front of my '70 Monte. I have recently put 275/50/17's on the back. They are hard to find in a good tire, but they look great. It's about the same overall outside size as a 275/60/15. The 275/50/17 I am using is made by Falken. I was leary at first, but it has been a pretty good tire so far. All of these low profile tires on a muscle car look goofy. By the way, the 255/50/17 looked good, but I wanted to try a larger tire. I'm glad I did.
