I just had installed into my El Camino a 700R4 from an 1990 Corvette; my question is does this transmission have a provision for a mechanical speedometer cable or will I have to change it to an electronic? Thanks for the help.

You can remove the electronic speedo housing and install the mechanical gears and housing and you'll have a provision for the old style speedo cable. Bowtie Overdrives sells the parts.

that 1990 trans may have a metal reluctor wheel on the out put shaft. You can not install a mechanical speed-O gear housing and plastic gear against that reluctor wheel.
Pull the electronic sensor out of the 1990 trans and see if it is a plastic gear driven setup or a sensor that reads the metal reluctor wheel on the output shaft.
If it is a metal reluctor wheel , that will pull off and mechanical speed-O gear parts and clip will install

The Corvette has a different length output shaft and different output housing than other vehicles. Were the housing and output shaft changed?

What did you do for tranny mount? The Corvette case has no place to put one.

IIRC, you can use a Caddy rear housing that has the mount boss cast in.

the 1981 & 82 Corvettes had regular 700r4 trans cases , 1984 Corvette started the torque arm setup as I recall.
The tail housing with mount area was also used in 1990's Impala SS , some Buick roadmaster cars too
Not many 1983 Corvettes around.
