I don't have a tach but my idle is rather high. When i shift into gear (automatic) the engine wants to die and does most of the time. It jerks rather hard when I put it in gear. I just rebuilt the engine, everything stock but the cam 454 lift 272 degrees advertised duration. It's a 350 ci.
Also I don't know where the vacum line coming off th transmition goes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you have a stock converter on there not letting the motor spin. You may want to look into getting one that will give you more stall in the 2200 range.
