: Whistling noise from engine

my big block is making some whistling noise. I never heard before. Here's the scenario. I just installed a edelbrock 800 carb on there. Its a new intake 3 months ago. I know i hooked everything up right. I had the engine on and i took off the air cleaner and listened. It kind of sounded like something from the carb. The higher the RPM, the the quicker the whistle and louder. But the noise blends in as you reach about 2500. Is this a vacuum problem? Any ideas? I am about to go check my connections to make sure they are tight, but i need your advice. Thanks.

It's likely a vacuum problem. When replacing the intake manifold and carb, be sure to mount a spreadbore carb on a spreadbore manifold, squarebore carb on a squarebore manifold. Hopefully that's what you did here. Did you use new vacuum hoses? If not, I'd look over very carefully, especialy on the bottom side facing the manifold. The heat from the engine tends to make them brittle and they will often crack on the bottom. From the top, when doing a quick visual inspection, they often appear to be in good shape, but there'll be a crack hiding on the bottom.

Look at the tees and any fittings you may have installed in the new manifold to see if one may be cracked. And you may have to shoot some WD-40 around the manifold connections and head mating surfaces to see if a leak shows up.

thanks randy, i'll give the WD-40 a shot. The hoses do look old. I should probably replace them. The only hose that is new is the fuel line.
