71 CHEVELLE 1/4 WINDOW SEAL?
I RECIENTLY PURCHASED NEW 1/4 WINDOW SEALS THAT SLIDE INTO THE CHROME TRIM ON THE BACK WINDOWS. I WAS TOLD THAT THE OLD ONES JUST SLIDE OUT AND THE NEW ONES JUST SLIDE IN.
I AM CONCERNED REGARDING USING FORCE TO REMOVE THE OLD SEALS AS I DO NOT WANT TO DAMAGE THE WINDOW CRANK MECHANISM. DOES ANYBODY HAVE A SAFE WAY TO REPLACE THESE. THANX CLIFF CLIFF70CHEVY@BELLSOUTH.NET :o

You are talking about the vertical quarter window seal, just pull it down ward and it should slid right out.

I wouldnt have done this post unless I already tried that. It has been in the car since new. Are they glued in? I move the window when I pull down. I even tried to hit it down a little with a mallet and flat screwdriver. I am concerned that i will damage the window regulator. Just how hard can I be on this removal?

They might have a little rust in the track. Mine were not glued in when I removed them. I dont think you will have any issues with your window regulator. If you are really concerned take the entire window out of the car and then remove them. Or pull your inside quarter's and put a block of wood under the regulator arm and window.

On my '68 there is a small phillips screw holding it in on the bottom of the track. Once I removed that, I still had to take a flat blade screwdriver and practically chisel it all out of there. It was quite brittle after 40 years.
