What kind of sounds would the oil pump make if was bad or if something was not right? I think something is not right with mine, my engine has been making an odd sound that I can't describe, it's kinda like a wine/ rattle type sound and it's loudest when its put in gear and you give it gas but when it is in park it's not very loud. Temp doesn't effect the sound either. I run about 65 psi at 1500-2000 rpm. It's driving me crazy because it drowns out my exhaust and engine sound that I want to hear so bad and it has made this sound since day 1 of when I finnished rebuilding my engine. I have used a stethascope and listened around and the only place you can hear it is through the distribuitor shaft and a little on the oil pan but everywhere ealse is nice, smooth, and pleasing sounding. Please help!
Thanks

Check around the torque converter and front of the trans if an auto. My TH350 front pump use to whine and complain when it was going bad. Oil pumps usually do not make much noise if they are bad, they will show it on the guage and yours has great pressure.

Second Thor's suggestion - An oil pump's too small to make that kind of noise (loud) without already failing.
