Alright, well here is the deal. My dad and I have a 72 el camino that is a factory air car that has sense been removed. We made ourselves a new heater box and do not want to put back in the A/C switches that were on the old box. Is there a simple way to remove these and still have the functionality of the blower motor? Has anyone done this before? I would like to get rid of some wires and components that I no longer need sense I am not going to run A/C in it.
Thanks,
Matt

If you cut out those switches/wiring I would think all that would/will work is your HI speed on the blower motor. The other speeds need the resistor. Just cut a small hole in your homemade box and mount the resistor there as it was from the factory. Black tape the other items and tuck them away behind the passenger side hood hinge assembly. Trust me, you or somebody down the line will be gratefull for not butchering it any further. However , if your carefull and use a schematic you can carefully remove the the entire A/C harness assembly as it is seperate from the main engine harness. But you'll have to do several things including reaching under your dash and finding the heater resistor connector and the connector for the non A/C car panel switch that isn't being used and plug it into a non-A/C car resisitor and panel switch that you can get anywhere on EBAY but you'll still have to cut a small hole on the top part of the heater plenum by the passenger side if you want to use anything other than HI speed from the blower, changing the switch on the panel to a non A/C switch, Theze schematics are easy to read and Im sure the next guy who reads this can give you a link to them or maybe you have a GM manual handy. Make sure your car is what you think it is in terms of year(Look at the title and your VIN-a 72 has a "letter" as the fifth digit!). 69-71 are basically the same under the dash but a 1972 is a whole different story altogether!!!!!!!!!!! If you decide to start all over and discard or cut your exsisting harness please-please contact me or send me a email-I'll buy the A/C car specific resisitor from you! I need one. Better yet buy a A/C engine side delete box cover as I did from a company called American graffiti or A/C delete box I think-run a search on the net-you'll find it for your application. It will make life alot easier and it will allow you to use the blower motor as well and you or someone else down the line can/could reinstall the old system.WHATEVER YOU DO, SAVE ALL THE A/C PARTS!!!!!!!!!! You can either return to factory down the line or sell everthing on EBAY and buy more speed parts!!!!
What I described above(locating exsisting connections under dash) does not apply to a sweep style dash panel, only an SS style dash w/guages or idiot lights that qriginally came form the factory with A/C.If you have a sweep style dash you are going to get the best results from a A/C delete box engine side cover and integrating all the exsisiting switches and blower motor into it. Trust me the 190.00 you spend on this cover will save you hours of wiring headaches. This comes from experince!!!! Call me if you want and I'll walk you through it.

thanks for the reply Marc! Unfortunately I have a sweep style dash so I guess I am kind of screwed. My dad actually cut the old casing off and we fiberglassed our own box instead of buying one. since it is the sweep style non SS dash I am better off just tucking away all of the sensors and regulators?

No, your not screwed as of yet. The previous owner had butchered mine as well. First I would highly recommend buying the A/C delete cover form American graffiti and scaping off that fiberglass one you made. Then reinstall the reisitor switch into the new cover on the engine side and all should be good. Leave everything else on the interior alone, it should still work. When you want heat from the vents put the slider on "max" or "normal" A/C setting and it should work. For floor heat put the slider on "heater" setting. If none of this works you need to make sure the Vacuum hose is connected to the engine(There is a small hose that is protruding from the engine side of firewall with a one-way valve that has to be connected to manifold vacuum as it runs all the plenum doors inside and under your dash) and make sure that large orange wire running along the top of the firewall is connected to the blower motor and has its fuse intact and not blown.
Let me know.
