I recently installed a centreforce dual friction clutch and pressure plate and re-surfaced the flywheel in my 396 camaro and now have a vibration that increases with engine rpm. This happens whether the clutch is engaged, or if the car is standing still.
I installed another flywheel and put the old clutch and pressure plate in with no change. What am I overlooking?

Did you put in a new pilot bearing? I can see damaging this very easily if not careful, possibly to the point of rubbing or vibrating on the input shaft. Mark

No, I didn't replace it as it was relatively new , and still seemed snug when I checked it with a dummy input shaft. To play it safe, it certainly makes sense , under the current circumstances to change it. Any other thoughts?

I was talking to a gentleman who suggested that maybe the harmonic balancer may be old or possibly rotated enough in itself to become a problem. We also contemplated the idea that the flywheel may be in the wrong position. I have dealt with a number of flywheels and don't recall being able to put it on " wrong ". Suggestion...if you take the tranny out again, run the motor with ONLY the flywheel attached to it. This would eliminate anything to do with the tranny and clutch. Good luck! Mark

have you done anything with your spark plugs
recently? I installed an accell spark box last fall and I opened the gap up on the plugs to like .045 as the tech data suggested. Well i did not drive it for a while then when I did I had a bad vibration which felt like driveline. I pulled my hair out for a month even had in on my scope and the firing lines looked good. tried another flex plate , ran it with the tranny/converter unhooked and the motor still shook bad. Well to make a long story short i finaly remembered the plugs and closed the gap back up and she ran fine again. I felt really stupid and it did not feel like a miss but it must not have been able to light off the mixture properly with the high compression with that larger gap. So don't overlook the basics.

I recently had a similar problem and found out I broke a motor mount. She shook a bit before hand with the beefed up cam, but once the motor mount broke it felt like the whole driveline was going to drop out of her.
