I have a 1966 el camino that i just put a new carbarator on. now it has a lot of diesling when I shut it off. what should i do.

1. I'd check for vacuum leaks, did you plug all non-used ports? Check around the base of the carb too, some installations require adapter plates to seal up right.

2. Try a lower and/or leaner idle. If the idle is too high sometimes it will run on like that. Same for too rich.

3. Make sure the timing is right.

For the time being, till you figure it out, if it's an automatic, shut it off in gear. This will usually snuff it out. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

The idle speed is too high.

Timing makes dieasling our mg still does it havent gone out to fix it working on its starter worst piece of crap on that car goes through the transmisson bellhousing and crashes into the flywheel

Carbon deposits building up on the piston or head can cause this. Try better gas. Also, retarded timing will cause the engine to run hotter. This can add to the problem.
