Anyone offer any advice on fixing a problem with my power steering. It feels like manual steering when moving slowly. Once you accelerate it acts like normal power steering. Just wondering if it might be something I can fix myself. Can't afford to run to the mechanic for everything. Saving my money for an engine re-build and major paint job.

Make sure the belt tension is adequate and that it's full of fluid. Engine idle speed is another factor. If the idle speed is too slow, it affects the pressure that the pump can produce.

I wonder if you're running an undersize crank pulley and the pump's not turning fast enough at lower engine speeds??
Or, a partially collapsed/bent pump hose??
