I ordered a new eagle cast crank for my 454.When I installed the maincaps I rotated the crank after each cap, everthing was fine. When I installed the frist piston and tried to rotate the engine, the crank seems to be about ten thousands or so,to tall. Can I grind this off myself,or will this through the balance off to much.I can send it back, but this will set me back a week or two. This is my frist rebuild,so I don't know much about it.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Tim,
Just went through the same thing with a Ford stroker motor. I told the customer to send it back, but he decided to have us grind on the crankshaft instead. Only problem with this is that it will require rebalancing the assembly, and it will require heavy metal to do so.
I have never seen this with an Eagle crank, and we have used quite a few of them. I would call them first and make sure you got the correct crank for the rod length you are using. It will require rebalancing to be correct.

I ordered the crank through jeg's.I've got stock rods, and it's a stock 4" crank.I called jeg's and the part # matches. They said they've never seen this with a eagle crank either, but if I'll send it back they will galdly replace it.Could there be something making it to lomg? I looked at the bearings on both the crank & rods ,there setting flush in the pocket. Thanks for your help.

Tim,
I also have never seen the problem with an Eagle crank. Must have slipped through the qualitiy control dept. I would have them send another, in case there are other problems with it.
