My 72 Chevelle recently died as I was pulling into my driveway. I tried to start it up, but the starter would not even turn over. Looking at my battery, it seemed dead, I tested it and it was so I replaced the battery. I then took out my starter and got that tested, it works fine. The motor will not even turn over, I cannot even hear the starter click. I tested the lead going from the battery through the ignition to the starter and I got nothing. The hot lead does have power. IS this my ignition switch? WHat's the problem and what would be the best way to go about this? Thanks

Also check for loose wires and grounds. Check for a bad ignition wire that comes from the coil and goes to the starter. It's happened to me before.

Where do you live, Scott?
It's very difficult to troubleshoot electrical problems online, especially when you don't really know where to start.
Maybe someone who lives in your neck of the woods could give you a hand with it.
Does anything electrical work? Does your interior light come on? Do your headlights work?
If it's everything, it could be the connection at the junction block.

MINE WONT START EITHER!! I am having the same problem on my 70 chevelle replaced starter, and i have a new battery all connections are tight and clean. When i turn the key on the radio does go on and same with lights on my aftermarket gauges but nothing happens when i go to start it no click or nothing. I have to turn the key almost 15 time before it attempts to start i was wondering how the igition switch came out from the steering colum. is it spring loaded or does the steering wheel have to be removed. When i do get it out how do i test the switch to determine if that is the cause of the problem ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED!!!

Before you go tearing out the ignition switch verify that the neutral safety switch is good. It is locaet at the base of the steering column or in the console for floor shift cars. Two pin connector with one purple and one purple with white stripe. Pull the connector off and bypass with a large paper clip or piece of wire. If it starts then the switch is either bad or out of adjustment.
You migh also try moving the shift lever to neutral or jiggling while key is in start position.
Remember that if you bypass the swicth the car could start in any gear- could be dangerous, drag strips require neutral safety switches.
