: 71 Buick skylark,,,,71, 72 Chevelles brother????
NZChevMuscle Dec 29th, 08, 3:12 AM Hi All
Hope not a stupid question but being from New Zealand we dont see alot of not so common USA muscle . I came accross an auction for a 71 Buick Skylark (maybe common in USA???) an at first I thought it was a 71-72 bodied Chevelle untill I took closer look. Did Buick use GM bodys an chasis for the Skylark???

Elviss 1971 Dec 29th, 08, 4:25 AM It is considered a A body as well so it would be maybe more like a cousin. As it is a GM product some of the common items will swap but being a Buick it had it's own identity with different body lines, engines, interior ETC.
In the old days GM had a large lineup:
Buick,Cadillac,Chevrolet,GMC,Oldsmobile,Pontiac all were GM products. :)

the chassis is the same, rear axle is similar
some body parts will interchange (deck lid??)(hinges)
dash is different, seats/windows/door panels and other items may swap.
i bought an old ladies 71-skylark with a dead engine and trans,
so i swapped a chevy engine and trans into it, to do this i had to swap the (Buick)engine mounts bolted to the frame for the Chevelle ones then it was easy.
this could be a good car to buy, there are other models based on the skylark body like the GS (grand sport); kinda like a chevelle compared to a SS-version.
these cars can look good and drive/ride nice too, just like a chevelle.....

Andy thinks it might be better but if you check some of his posts you will see that Andy needs help only a trained mental health experts can provide!! LOL!! What part of New Zealand are you from? I have family around the Gisborne area and have always wanted to get over there for a visit.
71BBB Dec 29th, 08, 2:54 PM Lots of aftermarket product listed for Chevelle with fit A Skylark as well. For example in my 71 Skylark I have a full UMI setup that will bolt into a chevelle as well or other A-body. I am about to bolt in Tubular upper and lower front control arms from CCP that are listed in their line up for Chevelle but will work on a Skylark
I agree with Andy, Buick may be a little better:p
