: Fuel guage issue

I installed a new fuel tank sending unit in my 64. The guage is an autometer sport comp.
The problem is, when I turn the ignition on , the needle rises to just below "empty". There should be at least a 1/4 tank of fuel. When the ignition is turned off, the needle deflects down to the peg. :(

Ive checked the ground, and the tan wire connection looks good.
ANY input is greatly appreciated.

I believe you have to program these units after you install them. Check the installation instructions and if you can't find it I'll bet you can get a copy on Autometer's web site.

I have an Autometer gauge of different model and instructions were to fill the tank then short 2 wires together for a few seconds to set the top level and it should go down properly from there.

What model# gauge do you have. You need a 0-30 ohm gauge. If you have the 0-90 ohm gauge, it would only read 1/3 when the tank is full.

Autometer does have programable ones, but we need the model# to determine if he has one.

I have the Auto meter Ultra light pro-comp guage. It came installed in a Covan replacement dash panel, so I didnt get a lot of literature to go along with all the guages. Ill dig around in my stuff and try to find some literature. Im thinking that it is probably the 0-90 ohm guage. If thats the case do I swap out the sending unit??

Another quick question, to check what ohm sender I have, do I fill up the tank, then check the ohms between the sender post (where tan wire goes) and ground wire??

Here's a link to their FAQ's If you don't find the answer, ask their support people a question.

If you can find one that fits your tank, or just get a new gauge.
