I find myself having to set my timing about once a week. The distributor is new as is the clamp and they seem to work fine. Ive been setting at 10 deg BTDC and slowly but surely it starts to back off. Any ideas?

Are you using one of the aftermarket aluminum clamps? If so, they tend to loosen. Might try using a stock holder and see if that fixes your wandering timing.

Is your distributor sitting in the proper position. Is it bottoming out on the cam gear and not flush with the intake manifold?

I have seen alot of these that have no arc in the clamp and thus will not tighten down enough even with the bolt tight. Also make sure your bolt is the right length so as to not bottom out in intake hole and leave a one or two thread gap between bolt and dist. clamp, its hard to see sometimes. I tighten mine enough that I can still adjust timing without loosening clamp and timing stays put.

Try taking the clamp off and bending it a little, so as to apply more downforce on the dist. when tight.

One thing to possibly consider, is the timimg actually changing or is your mark moving. Be sure your harmonic balancer is in good shape, we had one that was actually beginning to slip and the timing appeared to keep changing. We also had the problem with the "chrome aftermarket clamp not holding and went back to the GM clamp.

Im using a CSE billet clamp with a stud in the manifold instead of a bolt and it holds fine. I went with this setup because i didnt trust the old clamp.

You didn't say if it has new timing chain/gears. If you have old chain/gears.....well nu-said
