: Help-broken trans mount

I have a 1971 chevelle with a small block and TH350 trans. In the course of various repairs and upgrades, I needed a new trans mount. The new part has a bracket that mounts on the trans with a tab that extends down and through the trans cross member (this is different than the one I replaced).

My concern is that the holes in the cross member don't align well with the new mount. I had to pry the whole deal to one side about 1/4-1/2 inch to install the bolts. So the bracket tab is near the cross member hole and makes an annoying clunk when I let off the gas or shift from reverse to drive.

I don't see where I could adjust the motor mounts to align the trans mount. If anyone has experience with this and can help, thanks in advance! Steve

You sure that's the right mount?

I am very sure I have the correct mount. Everything would work perfect if the trans was shifted 1/4 - 1/2 inch over. It is too close to the drivers side to line up perfect.

Sounds like you might have a small alignment problem ie: frame rails slightly out of square . Loosen (not remove) ALL 6 motor mount to engine bolts and all 4 transmission mount bolts , reposition the rear end of the transmission as needed and then tighten everything back up starting with the transmission bolts. You may also need to loosen the 4 crossmember bolts to get everything in alignment.

Has the car ever been in a wreck?

Thanks for the advice. This sounds doable, although I don't look forward to working around the hedders to get at those bolts.

The car had a different colored fender when I bought it 10 or so years ago. The frame looks ok, but you never know what happened. I just wondered if this is a common problem or not.
