Here we go...I was dreading Christmas knowing I would have to hook this up! Netgear WNR834M 'N' wireless router. It is refurbished so Netgear won't provide free support! I get it hooked up and go on to the URL provided which opens Netgear's Configuration Wizard. I follow all the steps including inputting my existing static modem's IP addresses and setting up security settings but when I get to the last step where it is establishing a network at about 85% completed it drops the internet connection. I've tried it with and without my firewall and have tried all the security options it recommends. Once it drops the internet, I have to completely disconnect the router, reinstall the modem only, to get my internet connection back. Any suggestions before I write a big check to someone to come out and install it for me?

I havent done an N router before but...

You might not have to enter all that in..

Is there a checkbox to press OBTAIN IP ADDRESS AUTOMATICALLY?

I also dont do them setups that they offer. I found it much easier to set it up myself...

To get into my router I just goto IE and type in 192.168.1.1. This takes me to the router where I can log in and get to the settings pages...

That's the IP address I typed in and it took me to Netgear Wizard. It only automatically detected what kind of Internet connection I had but I still had to type in all the existing modem's IP addresses manually. I can get through all the steps, it's just when I hit enter at the end, I get a progress bar "accepting" everything and at about 85% complete it dumps me from the internet.

That was the secret! It was asking me to provide IP and MAC addresses. I had to manually configure it to automatically detect the IP and MAC addresses. Once I did that, I was able to proceed and set up security etc. and then it FINALLY accepted the updates without dropping off line. Now when my son gets home he can configure his XBOX360 (so I'll probably be back asking for more help!) Thank you Shane!!!!
