I still have my old mini bike that Santa gave me over 30 years ago.
It was a mail order kit out of Hot Rod magazine. (still have the ad)

My bother ran it after me then his son had it awile.

I did the "Easy Rider" paint job on the front and on chain gaurd with spray cans and tape off.

Home made carb velocity stack out of old chrome flash light.

Home made exahaust header was my first welding job in high school metal shop other then test pieces

Home made rear wheel adaptor is set up to fit racing go-kart split sprocket so I can change gear ratios

I recently found a NOS red line rear tire for it on ebay that was exactly the right one.

Pretty cool that you hung on to it all these years. I had a few that I cobbled together. They are long gone however the scars are not lol

Thanks for posting. Brings back memories. Most of the 'toys' we had were used up and not much worth hanging on to.

I had a K Mart mini bike back in the 60s. Dad paid 129.00 for it. Wow the memories. Was a dumb kid back them and ran it out of oil. Dad gave me hell for that ! Brought it back and the they gave our money back. Them we went to JC Pennys and bought a Benelli mini bike. Those were the days my friend. If you had a Rupp you were the snizzle back then. Nice of you to post the pics ! !

I had a Rupp. Don't remember what model it was but I bought it used anyway. It came with a 3 horsepower whichI blew up, then bought a brand new 5 horsepower which I blew up and finally fished a 2.5 horsepower off a piece of equipment that someone had out for trash pickup. One of my buddies had a Benelli Buzzer that they bought at JC Penny. That thing was always broke down. If memory serves me correctly they sold the Buzzer and bought a bigger Benelli. That always broke down also. From there we graduated to Yamaha 125 dirt bikes. We were forever getting in trouble with the cops and our parents for riding the minibikes on the street. We even made the local paper one time for riding our minibikes all over the local baseball field and tearing it all to pieces because it was early in the spring and the infield was all wet and soft. Somehow we managed to get away with that one but I'm sure we were the prime suspects.

I was just looking up some retro stuff on Mickey Thompson and found out that they actually sold mini bikes ... called a Mickey-bike.

I had a Wards mini bike as a kid.. we put a comet 2 -speed kit on it and the thing would do a solid 45 MPH ... maybe 50.
It never could keep up with a Rupp Black widow though..

As I remember it there was a minibike explosion around 1969-1970. My brother and his friends threw a kit together and bashed around on. Like it was said, no helmets, no license and yet no hassle by the cops. I remember starting out on a friend's Honda Z-50.

Do you remember the mini-chopper? It had extended front forks and a sissy bar out back. I bet they used redline tires on them as well. The Benellis? I recall them having a secret weapon minibike that had a comparitively huge 180cc engine. Harley even made a minibike into the early 1970s. As the seventies wore on the minibike was something you most often saw strapped onto a camper since their small size was ideal for that purpose.

I often wonder whatever happend to all the old minibikes. Most were probably used and abused, then sat broken until it was time to clear out the garage and take the junk to the dump.

Thanks for posting the pics. All you need now is the football helmet that Jack Nicholson wore as a passenger in Easy Rider.

DAMN this brings back memories. I remember when I was eight my dad wheeled a brand new 3.5hp Tecumsei (sp) powered "Yellow Jacket" mini-bike through the door and told me, "Merry Christmas son". Man I terrorized the neighborhood on that thing for YEARS! When I became 11 my dad moved me up too a 100DR Suzuki dirtbike but kept the mini bike for my half-brothers and sister. I don't know what ever happened too that old thing. My kids now have a 90 Yammie 4strk dirt bike but they would rather play video games and run around with their buddies.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh the days, back when we could run around from daylight too dark and go MILES away from home, folks wasn't worried and we never had to worry about some creep harming us. Man times sure have changed, doesn't seem fair. Now days our kids can't even be kids anymore. :(

I still remember the blisters on my hands from starting that stubborn ol bike, :D

I never had a mini bike, but I did have a 1959 Cushman Eagle when I was 13.
2 speed gear shift on the gas tank. Will post a pic when I dig it out.

I had a bunch of them.

here is a few

1982 Honda Z50R

Heath Kit "Boonie Bike". It had a 2 speed jack shaft and a huge back tire

Trail Horse I found with no engine. I put a B&S on it but should have a Tecumsun.
The Trail Horse has a jack shaft with 4 gears on it that you can swap around to get different ratios.
It is not a pretty machine but is one of the best riding ones.

nothing comes close to the Z50R as the kids all want to ride this one the most

The closest thing I had to a mini bike was a 1958 Sears Allstate Scooter. (kinda like a Cushman) Wish I still had it. That thing was a blast to ride.
