Hey guys, Am looking at getting the kick panels without the speakers. Am wondering what speakers will fit? The supplier says you can't install other speakers, without alot of cutting, they are too thick. I want to get better speakers than they sell with them. 68 chevelle with a/c, factory a/c removed.

Kenwood has a set of 4x6's that come with a mounting plate. This will put the speaker on the outside but you are going to need the clearance. Anything thin enough to mount on the inside of the kick panel will sound like crap.

the ones sold with them
what ones..
there are two sets sold with them..
the high watt ones where poineer..
I installed boston acustic in mine..
51/4 instead of the 6.5" used a plate to bolt the smaller oned in..
the 6.5 require thin speaker.. the 5.25 fit in the cowl hole and can be deep.(better sound)
or cut the hole bigger and install 6.5" speakers of your choice

The ones I ordered for my 66 came with Pioneers. I ordered a set of JBL's from Crutchfield. I didn't have any issues getting them to fit.

Not sure if this will help since I have a 66' but here goes...

The kick panels are limited in depth on mine due to the foot brake lever so you can only fit shallow speakers like Pioneer. I wanted to fit my Alpine 6.5" drivers which are about 3" deep. I had to cut out some of the sheet metal behind it. I hesitated for so long about doing this but good quality audio is high on my list so I cut into the metal.

Point is.. if you want to install midrange drivers that are on the upper end of the sound quality spectrum then you may need to consider cutting metal.

UPDATE: Thought i'd add a pic to help illustrate how much depth you have.

I will take and look to see how much i may have to cut. Don't want to mess up the integerty of the door.
