What is the best source to power an HEI distributor in a 67 chevelle.

The wire that went to the POS side of the old coil may work. You may need to extend it if it's too short.

From the same place (wire) that powered the original coil+. You would need to replace that wire (which is a resistance wire) with regular wire. You can get wire w/connectors from jegs (http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product2_10001_10002_760671_-1) or year one. You will need to reuse your bulkhead connector as the above kits are for 68+. See this post http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=129060

I just add a new 14 gage wire from the IGN or IGNITION terminal on the fuse box, to the BATT terminal on the HEI.

Dave Ray (IgnitionMan) has a picture and brief explanation on how to do it, ask him for the HEI feed wire info he has, very simple to do. He can be reached by e/mail at info@davessmallbodyheis.com

Open up the main plug on the fire wall and find a fused pin. Connect with a brass pin connector and use only 12gauge wire. Do not use a light wire you won't feed enough power to the HEI with light wire.

what happens if you dont change this wire??

Strap Ign 1 and Ign 2 behind the Ignition switch, or at the firewall connector. That way, you are effectively using Ign 2 lead at the coil for full 12 V at all times, cranking or run. Then you simply connect the existing two wires at the HEI to the Batt terminal. You don't butcher the resistor wire, or have to run a separate wire. You can go back to orginal at any time by simply removing the strap.

what happens if you dont change this wire??
If you don't give the HEI a full 12V, it's not putting out fully with less voltage going to it in the run position.

No need to bother Dave, a lot of people right here in this forum are more than willing to share.
In fact it's been posted many times before so a simple "search this forum" will find many posts.

I know for certain it isn't a "bother" for him, he has pictures of the wire up he will send to anyone that asks for them, no strings attached.

I also know for certain, Dave's way is one of a pair of ways to do this best, the other being a complete change out of the stock resistor wire. And, if you wish to do that, GM dealers, ALL of them, have available the connectors for the bulkhead connector that you will need to change to connect a nice, full stranded NON-resistor wire from that connector to the BATT terminal of the HEI. To find these connectors, look in the GM wiring parts catalogue, NOT on the parts CD's and micro fishe.

It's just that simple, no need to NOT RECOMMEND someone that is there to help, and does, every day. We all seek info here, why not use any and all sources, that is what the whole thing, and our sport, is about. I see others here recommend many people and businesses that don't participate on this board, so, it shouldn't be an issue to recommend a source, like Dave, that can, and will help, should it.

Milton

Certainly nothing against Dave but like I said, no reason to go away from Team Chevelle to get that information as it's been posted here many times plus people here love to help others.

Ya' know, you could just post how to do it rather than try to send people off somewhere else.

What relation are you to Dave anyway?
Or are you Dave himself?

Not for the 67 and earlier. They use the "twinlock" connector in the firewall bulkheads. They have been out of production for yrs. Another member here was nice enough to sell me a few when I needed some.
