: Speedometer cable

My speedometer cable is acting up again. A couple of months ago I lubricated the speedo cable probably fifteen times over the span of three days while I had my dash out. I used WD-40. My question is should I take the cable out of the car so I can clean and lubricate it with grease or should I just buy a new cable?

Thanks for any help,
Bubba

As you can tell, WD-40 isn't going to work very well to lubricate your cable. You need to use some kind of grease lubricant like White Lithium grease. As far as replacing your cable, the ends of the cable are where you usually have problems. They may start rounding off or cracking. If thats the case then a new cable is probably in order. If it looks ok, I'd just lube it up good and reinstall it.

WD-40 will only remove the moisture, then eventually dry up, You need to use White Lithium grease.

Second question,

Which end does the cable come out of the case?
