I just purchased a 70 El Camino and the rear end gets really squirly, it tends to jump from side to side as I get on and off the gas. It gets bad enough that at times it is scarey. The previous owner installed 15 x 8 corvette rally wheels and has raised the truck front and rear. The front is up about 2" and the rear is up about 5" over stock. The rear upper control arms appear to be too short and the axle is rolled forward. Is the rear end angle the problem? What are the options to correct the problem?

Getting the ride height back to normal would not hurt, but it probably is more related to having an old car with worn out suspension bushings. You should replace all 8 rear bushings. When these get old and loose, the rear axle can do a lot of surprise steering , which can be very exciting.

Jimo,
I agree with Jwagner. When I bought my 69 Chevelle it had ladder bars on it and looked pretty bad so I removed them. The first time I got into it a little at 60 mph I almost soiled my BVD’s. The car swayed so bad I had to steer into it. I was hoping that it was just the tires braking loose http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif but it was just worn out bushings like Jwagner said. New bushings will make it ride like a new car.
