: test a coil?

Besides holding the end of the coil wire near a grounded source and looking for spark, is there any other way to test a coil to see if actually boosting low voltage to high voltage?

Thanks,

Since collapsing the magnetic field of the smaller coil is what produces the high voltage, you have to rig up a test stand of some sort that duplicates the ignition system operation. It really shouldn't be hard to do. Use a 12 volt battery and a spark plug wire or old coil wire. Connect the positive terminal of the coil to the positive terminal of the battery, place the coil wire near a ground. Connect one end of a jumper wire to the battery's post, and then touch the end to the negative terminal of the coil for about a half a second. When you remove the jumper, it should throw a spark.
