Sorry this isn't a Chevelle question but I figured you guys might be able to help me anyway.

In my 1968 Chevrolet Impala Fastback (327), when the fuel gauge goes down to half a tank, the needle moves back and forth from Full to Empty. Do you guys know what's wrong? Is it the float in the gas tank or something with the gauge itself.

Probably the sending unit in the tank. If you take the tank down and the sender out and use a ohm meter while sliding the float..it should be a steady change in ohms and not jump around. prob around $60-100 for new one so be prepared while you got it down. It's a lot of trouble to do it twice.
