I've searched and searched and can't find anything even vaguely similar to this forum for Hondas. If you know of one, I'd love to throw this question at them as well.
The wife's car/my beater is an 89 Honda Civic. It's got 210000 miles on it and smokes more than she does. This was fine as it had functional AC and was only 500 bucks.
A week or so ago it developed a miss. I pulled the plug wires one at a time, and found that when I pulled the #3 wire off the cap, it didn't change the way the car ran.
Today I was able to go up to Autozone and pick up a new cap/rotor/plugs/plug wires. I've installed all these things.. and the problem has not gone away. A check with the timing light I picked up today says that all 4 cylinders are firing.
The #3 plug I pulled out was oil-soaked both above and below where it screwed into the head. The other 3 plugs were chalky white, if it matters.
I figure the possibilities are that that cylinder is not receiving fuel (but it looks like injection is done at a single point and not per-cylinder) or there's something wrong with the valves or piston. Is there something else I've missed? I don't think I'm willing to tear the engine down on a 500 dollar car - if it's valves or piston I'll drive the car over to a salvage yard and let them give me 2-300 bucks for it.
If y'all have any input I would appreciate it - and I apologize for "Hondaing" in the Chevelle board.
