What does anyone run their plug gap at on a BBC with a MSD distributor and 6AL box? MSD "suggests" on engines up to 10.5 compression to run between .050 and .060.

That sounds a bit wide to me. I've run a 454 with MSD6A for many years and have always run the gap at .045" Have never had plug problems and runs consistently 12.30s.
Basic street build,(8.25to1 compression,750 holley, custom solid lifter cam,3500 stall conv., and 4.10 gears)
The main thing to look at , is the ground of the plug will be very hard to get square with the electrode as most plugs are made to have a gap of .030" to .040". When you open the gap really wide, it makes the ground point away from the electrode. Do they have a plug part number they reccomend? It would be worth asking.

MSD doesn't have a recommendation, but Accel recommends the AC R45XLS for the FI unit I have and those are the plugs I run.
Two main concerns: The fuel mileage is way down to 10-11 highway when it used to be 15-16 range with basically the same engine. Also, I've noticed a ~gurgling~ sound when decelerating along with an occasional popping like unburnt fuel. Plugs look fine though but they're gapped at stock .035 specs. Maybe I should open them up a bit and see what happens...

I just set mine at .035 with a 6AL. With the carbon core stock type plug wires, I'm afraid if I open up the gap much, the spark will be going everywhere except across the plug gap.
