Bill, to me wiring harness's are like bushings and ball joints, you don't "restore" 35-40 year old wire. Your best bet is to buy new reproduction harness's, unless of course they don't reproduce it.

M&H and American Autowire are two of the best.

hi guys; sorry, but i beg to differ on that point. 98% of the dash harnesses i receive are in very nice shape because of their location in the car. they are under the dash and protected from the elements. therefore, dash harnesses are very good candidates for restoration. not only do i save my customers about $125.00 over the cost of the reproduction dash harnesses, but they also get to have an original gm harness in their car and receive it much faster than it takes the reproduction ones to be made and sent out. most parts houses do not stock the better quality dash harnesses.

i ordered a $425.00 dash harness from one of the popular parts houses before i started restoring them. it had been 60 days since i placed the order and i was told it was still on backorder. i don't have my customers waiting more than 2 weeks for their harness from the time they send it out to the time they receive it.

i offer quality work with 100% warranty. check out my ads in the classified section.

Not sure if it is the same guy, but I bought one from Ebay from harness-tweaker. I was impressed with it, only wish the fuse block lettering could have been restored, but I have another harness that I can take it off from.

When I built my driver (70 SS 454 Sta. Wgn.) I used my old 70 SS Green dash with holes in it (from my one owner 70 SS El Camino) and the 39 year old -under hood--under dash--and A/C harness.
Cleaned and repaired any and all bad ends, dipped each connector in vinegar and baking soda, Washed it all in the bath tub and dried it, then put Elect. grease on every connector.
Installed it in my new Sta. Wgn. project in 2002. I know a 39 year old wiring harness is JUNK.... But mine has been FLAWLESS since 2002.
Everything that is electric works PERFECT...
P.S. The origional three G.M.--70 SS wiring harness,s fit the car perfect.
Some wires were brittle, So I cut to length the proper color wire, solder and heat shrink. Remember the old song...
" Aint nothin like the real thing baby "
Hey it worked for me.

I restored mine myself the only one I bought was the engine wiring harness from American Autowire because my original one I just could not trust because of the brittleness of it from the heat from the engine and starter area.
It was not hard to remove all the plugs and clean them up and reconnect.

Yes harness-tweaker / Dave is the same guy in Milwaukee. Although I have never had him do a harness for me I can vouch for his quality workmanship. I have seen the dash cluster resto's he has done as well as his awesome frame off 70SS. I bought a block off of him on ebay, went over to get it, he said take it and get it checked out first without paying. He did not even know me at that point. I have met him several times since here in the area at shows, and I can tell you he is among the top 5 Chevelle guys in the area when it comes to quality, craftsmanship and knowledge. Not to mention he is a stand-up guy.

Just got a dash harness from Dave and he did a great job. Repop harnesses are fine and I have used many on my car but nothing beats a good original.
