As you all know Allproautocollision is doing my body and paint work. He is on the Team Chevelle forums, and has a Body shop in Dickenson Texas. The old rusted roof is comming off, it was as wavy as the Ocean. A "Goodmark" repop roof skin will go in its place. Here are a few progress pics. I will update this post as I get pics, Enjoy, Merry Christmas!

 Yes, I paid up front $5000.00 to begin work in November. The total was $10,000.00 for paint and body. When I asked for a refund he only gave me $2096.00 back! $1800.00 was for storage, and $1104.00 to cut the roof skin off. But the roof was not welded on. He offered to put bolts in it for transport, but I didnt want him to do any more work on my car! :noway:

I was in DIckinson this morning picking up some powdercoating from the Highway Horrors shop. Where is this place that schtupped you? Any ideas where you're going to get it done now? I may have some leads for you.

Will you take him to court? Unless the storage fees were in some contract, that is BS!

I was thinking the same thing. How can they determine you owe them that kind of money in storage fees if that wasnt agreed on.

He said the storage fees were for taking the car early, that he could have had another car there to work on. He is located on 646 in Dickinson, Texas. Kinda a long way for me since I live in Tomball Texas. I wish that I never would have let him take my car. Because I am out 3K for the previous media blasting and rotissery work, and I have to spend another 3K just to get back to were I was before all this took place. plus the $2904.00 that I paid him. I am out approximately a total of $8904.00 and 1 year. I have seriously thought of selling my car, parts and all. Never to deal with this hobby ever again due to frustration.

Just out of curiosity, why did you wait so long to check on the car and the progress of the work?

Also, you mentioned the owner of the shop visits this site in your first post. What's his TC handle?

Ken,
Don't let one sour apple ruin it for you. Take a deep breath and be glad you found out before things got worse. I also think that storage fees are BS. He should have been working on your car. If you do move ahead find a body guy you can work with and find one that someone else has used and would recommend. I know when the car is complete you will be glad you finished it. Good luck on your project.

Ken sorry to hear of your misfortune, you need to find a shop closer to do the work, so as to keep a better eye on it if that's possilble. Your car looks like it was rolled outside a couple of months ago from the pictures you posted. I thank god every day for my body guy down here, he is GOLD!!!!

Andy, read this post, this is how I met him here! The shop is approx. 80 miles from my home. He sent me a few pics around December 08, showing the roof work which I posted. The e-mails went back and forth, all seemed fine when all of a sudden I couldn't contact him. He wouldn't return my e-mails or phone calls. When he did contact me he said I needed a new deck lid. I remembered my deck lid being in good condition, so I decided to make a visit this past Saturday to his shop and found my car outside with rusted floorboards. Rust is in every crack and crevis. The guy that looked at it today said it needs to be completely re-blasted because and I quote "this car was outside for months".

I really feel bad for you. It looks like you had already put alot of time and work into this car before you gave it to him to finish. To me this is the hardest and one of the most exspensive parts of a restoration. Its also the most aggravating part as well. My 67 sat for two years waiting for the guy to get to it and I complained to anyone who would listen. Hang in there and stay the course if you can. In the end you will be very happy I'm sure. :beers:

The real question is. Were you aware of his so called "storage" fee for bringing the car in "early"? Im thinking one would just keep the rediculous storage fee and just wait for thier turn in the shop. If it were me, I would still take them to court.

I don't know what the laws are like in Texas, but if was in Georgia I'd have a claim filed in small claims court before the sun went down tomorrow.

Ken

I feel bad for you, too. It's tough getting a good place to do work like this, that's for sure. When you do find a new shop, I'd suggest making the trip there every 2-3 weeks even if nothing is happening. I did that when my car was 100 miles away going through a 2 year frame off. I think it actually helped everyone concerned. Even if nothing was done, I knew the car was safe, the shop owner knew I was paying attention and frequently we had a chance to talk face to face about any issues or problems he was having with the car.

I see the old shop guy hasn't been on this site since November. I doubt we'll ever hear from him again after your experience.

Good luck the rest of the way! It will be worth it!!

Im so sorry to see this. I hope you find some place that will treat you right and finish the car without any bull crap. There are just some people that shouldnt be allowed to own a business. No less one that deals with cars like this.

IMO if a car is at a body shop there should not be any storage fee. Cars have to be at the shops for them to be worked on. I would ask family and friends if they know any good lawyers, perhaps that they have dealt with in the past. Secure a lawyer that will only charge you if you win. Then sue that a*****e and the business for as much as you possibly could. I know that right know you are mad and sad at the same time, hang in there and pursue your dream.
