have a vibration in my 69 ss chevelle. runs fine to 60mph. at 60 it has a bad vibration that you feel in the clutch pedal and shifter. if you run up above 70/75 it seems to be not as bad. let off the gas drop back to below 60 it goes away. vibration is there even when you press in clutch at 60. tried new trans mount, both universals. also tried drilling out drive shaft an adding a quart of oil to check balance...didn't work.trans is m22,works fine.tires and rims good. thought it could be wheel bearings but there is no steering wheel vibration....any ideas

Can you simulate it in nuetral. If not, then lift the car and put it on jack stands(under the axle tubes). stands need to be there to simulate on the ground loaded suspension. run it up to speed. If it's still there remove the wheels.(put lug nuts on to hold the drums on and repete. Continue on by process of elimination. Hope this helps, Rob

I'd try a set of wheels/tires from a car that does not vibrate. Tires can fail internally.

My $0.02

If the wheels don't help, get a dial indicator and check axle flange run-out. With the rust removed from where the indicator is running, you shouldn't have more than .003-.004 thousandts run-out. Hope this helps, Rob

I dunno if this is your solution, I've never watched the tires while they were in the air so I don't know if this would cause them to wobble at all, but my friends and I have experienced this very same problem in just about all our cars. In every case, the car vibrates at 60 - 75 (sometimes it starts a little earlier or ends a little later, depends on the car) and in every case for us, the tires needed balancing. Not sure if that will help you out or not.
