: My redneck engineered pig roaster
seabees72ss Dec 24th, 08, 8:11 AM So, I'm on deployment and have 20 troops that wanted something different for Christmas dinner. I bought a 60 pound pig and along with one of my troops fabricated this pig roaster. It works pretty darn good for something thrown together in about an hour. The plan is to start the coals around 11 pm tonight (Christmas Eve) and have it done by 10 Am to start our Christmas celebration. It's tough for most of them being away from thier family and friends during the holidays(I myself have been deployed 8 of the 16 years I've been in) so anything to help them take thier minds off missing home is good. I deep fried two turkeys and one ham for Thanksgiving, so this is what I came up with. I also threw on about 10 pounds of beef shoulder for those that do not eat pork.
Happy Holidays all!!

gibbons Dec 24th, 08, 10:25 AM Pretty fun, I hope the drill is variable speed.... Dumb question/thought, is that conduit you are harpooning it with? My daddy always told me to never weld conduit, it gives off nasty chemicals. If that's true, you might want to find some copper before you fire it up(?)

3/4" Stainless steel all thread. Yeah, I don't think galvanized conduit would have been a good choice.
Thanks all, I'll post some follow up pics when its done. :beers:

DZAUTO Dec 24th, 08, 12:00 PM I'm thinking I see possible potential for filing a patent! This might be a good retirement pkg! :D
DougA Dec 24th, 08, 1:33 PM You might want to try and find some chicken wire or something similar to wrap the pig with, otherwise halfway through he'll be falling into the fire. Also the center section will get done much quicker than the shoulder and hind.Good luck.
