Hello All, Here is the problem:

4 door car. Button on the driver's side will lock all 4 doors, but will only unlock the rear doors. I am hopeful someone can tell me where the relays are located on this car.

Thanks in advance,

So I take it you are not getting power to the unlock using a test light? Do you have power coming out of the master switch when unlocking? It sounds like a broken wire to me. Often times the wires break in the rubber boot between the door and body.

Hmmmm.......a Cavalier with non working power locks!! I have a 92 Z-24 i bought new and the locks haven't worked since.....1999 or so.....LOL.
Good luck on this one. I would rather have a window crank or manual locks any day over electric.

power is getting to the locks to unlock them, it unlocks partially, but not all the way. Does it on both front doors. Backs open just fine. I think a relay is only sorta working here. Just need to find out where they are. Jonathan had told me it was under the passengers right kick panel, I looked, but can not find anything there.

Thanks RB6667

Could be the actuators are giving out.
I would venture to guess that the front doors get a lot more action than the rear, and that alone will give those little actuators a workout.

A broken or bad ground wire inside of the drivers boot is also a good place to look.
Dunno about Cavalier, but the 88+ GM pickups have a welded ground splice inside of the drivers door boot.
Absolutely the most ridiculous spot for a welded splice---or ANY connection for that matter.

Hey Rory.. Trade ya. I'll work on your door locks if you fix this stripped out spark plug hole in my Sunbird :)

The book says: If one or more of the door lock motors do not operate properly but the other door lock motors function normally, check the wiring to the motors. If the wiring is Ok replace the motor.

Thanks Brian and Jonathan,

Brian, I assume the actuators are in the doors? Same a motors? Do you know where the relays might be located?

Thanks,

"unlocks partially, but not all the way" sounds like the linkage is binding or in need lubrication.

It sounds like the actuators on both front doors are weak to me.

Here's some information for the next later year. It's probably the same for yours but doesn't help you with door locks.
http://www.autozone.com/addVehicleId,2569202/initialAction,repairGuide/shopping/repairGuide.htm?pageId=0900c1528003cfdd

Pontiac and Chevy (same car) didn't use a relay in the later years. I assume it's the same in yours. They did use a relay when the AUO option was installed. The Automatic Unlock (Key Fob),so I assume you don't have the AUO option.
My 2004 schematic shows a 2 wire connector on the door lock actuator. Gray wire is lock and tan is unlock. I'd pop the door panel and try feeding the terminal with a know 12 volts using a jumper wire. The actuator gets a ground through its mounting screws. See what happens.
If the manual button is locking/unlocking the door easily I wouldn't think the mechanism is stuck.
RockAuto should have the actuators fairly cheap if the jumper trick shows a weak actuator.

Thanks John, I'll try and feed 12 volts and see what happens. The button on the door does not open the lock fully. From what you have told me, it sounds like the actuators are sticking, or just plain worn out. This car does not have the AUO option.

Thanks very much John,

I have a 99. (Jeep) Have you any problems with the front brakes? And if so what did you do?

Dean, when was the club rule dismissed. I believe that a few rules were talked about in 1999 and that one was one most people accepted. It is sometimes very difficult to get this site up and 20 to 45 second wait to receive a message in search mode. Al said that he is working on it. Why accept more traffic on a non A body questions. Aug. 2008 my down load speed 2534.

As far as I know there never was such a rule but maybe so back when we only had one forum.
