Ok, when I take off, about 2-3 tablespoons of gas comes out around the gas cap. Its a non-vented cap. Anyone else have this problem? Got a way to fix it? I gotta take off like a grandma to save my gas http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif.

HI I had the same problem with a 64 Malibu, turns out that the gas tank fill pipe was worn and twisted where the cap goes on. Even a new cap would not seal.

Had/have the same problem...took some of the windshield wiper tubing and cut it to fit and put it in the gas cap....seems to be tighter and no spill much. Still wonder tho' - smell fumes every now and then.
Let me know if y'all have any better ideas!!!

You think a ring of silicone sealer inside the cap to act as a thicker gasket would stop the spillage?

No silicone. Gasoline will eat it. Maybe a piece of cork under the ring, or maybe some fuel-resistant foam.
Check to make sure that the cap you have is a good one before wasting a lot of time on fixing what may be a 6 dollar problem.
