Ive got a small problem that my take a lot of work. In an attempt to remove the rear wheels off my 71 El Camino (GM 12 bolt posi) I discovered one of the lugs just spins on the stud. I have tried everything I could think of to solve this problem with no success. I was told that the only way to remove the lug/stud is to remove the axle and use a die grinder to grind off the back of the stud. If this is the case I need help with this also. Any thoughts? Thanks

Use a nut splitter on the lug nut. cut a small notch in the nut with a Dremel Tool, hacksaw, or cutoff wheel to get the split started if you can...You may have just worn off the knurls of the stud and the axle may be just fine. Replace ALL the studs at this time.

Unfortunately the lugs/nuts are not surface lugs. They are for Weld Rodlites (3 piece aluminum wheels) which extend well into the space between the front and back of the wheel that cannot be reached. They are approx 2.5" long where only 1" is exposed with a hex nut shape on that part. Thanks.
